I posted on here yesterday all about my saddle problems, my pony bucking me off etc...Went to see him at trainers today where I have sent him, he thinks hes got sweet itch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought this as a project pony to sell on after university!! It basically makes him worthless!! :( :(

dont give up!!!!!!! Sweet itch is a pain but no need to make him worthless, there are cures have a search about or start a sweetitch thread what a nightmare for you but as long as the pony is decent people shouldnt mind too much!

my friend has a lovely pony that does very well which has sweetitch, and most the time with proper management can be ok, he has a lovely tail, mane and never looks sore!

as for the bucking, good luck with that!

Just get him a rug, so not the end of the world!!!
If the trainers yard is perhaps on lower, more sheltered ground than where you have been keeping him then it might be that the sweetitch symptoms would be reduced when he returns home?
Also, saddle probs will often = bucking off, you have that sorted so it is a problem overcome.

Chin up, things don't sound all bad at all!

p.s. if you are after making £ from a project pony then you have work to do - if it was easy then everyone would be doing it wouldn't they!

sweetitch doesn’t make them worthless, but if does make their value drop considerably, the amount of times you see an ad with has sweetitch hence £

And breathe....

Many lovely horses and ponies have sweetitch and it is very manageable. Lots of lotions and potions on the market, rugs etc. No problemo.

It wouldn't put me off, if I was looking to buy and the pony was nice, but had sweet itch.

Thank you for the replies.. I have experience with sweet itch my Welsh D had it a while ago.. just a total pain and when it came to selling him it was a nightmare, yes they are not worthless.. granted a little over dramatic there. Sorry  but I had the perfect horse who we could not sell for ages because of this and he went for so little. His saddle and bucking is being sorted at present.. but you know when you ust feel deflated by it all!!!:eek:
