Just went out to worm the horses and Charlie is all broken out in hives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he has NEVER had them before!!!!

I have only two things to pin point them to.
A. the new fly spray I was gushing about in a post below

( most likely as it is some potent stuff!)
or..........

B. some different hay given to me yesterday loose on the back of a truck that I pitchforked into them all.
The hay just looked like grass though and is from a person we buy hay from often so I doubt that!

GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Ready to get a trailer here and ship them all off!!!

(not really)

so........what to do about Charlie? Have a message in for the vet to get back to me when he is finshed with a client.

what do you all say?

I refrained from giving him the wormer until I know just what is up with him

Hi Jade,
How are you and Tex today?

It seems that it never rains but it pours, when one thing goes wrong so do other things.

Poor Charlie, it could be any of those things you mentioned couldn't it? Mind, I had to look up 'hives' as I wasn't exactly sure what it was. I was right, just called something else in the UK.

Found this article if it is any help.

Has the Vet got back to you yet?

Hopefully it is nothing serious and Charlie will be as good as new shortly.

He has not got back to me yet, but I am going to bathe Charlie now.

Thank you for the link, it was very informative!

what do you call "hives" in the UK?

Aargh NOOOO! It's gotta be the fly spray - darn it!

You know I looked up the properties in that spray and it is really potent! Handlers are advised to wear rubber gloves and eye protection to put it on!!

The hay wouldn't have done it - even if it was unbaled, so long as it was dry there wouldn't have been any problems with it if you buy from these people all the time.

Sod it - I'm still going to get that fly spray though - even if I only put it on their ears for going up the forest.

Well all of the other horses are fine from it (even Cashew and he was doused!)

I suspect that Charlie just had a rare reaction to it.

Vet suspects it's the spray too and told me to see if he improves tomorrow.

I bathed him very well and think most of it is off now.

I read the warnings too. It sort of freaked me out!

The harsh stuff must be why it works so I suppose we must choose our evils....flies or chemicals

Bugger Jade, its just not your time atm.

Am sure it will be the flyspray - Gen is really sensitive to some of the more potent ones and also comes out in Hives (weird cos ive always used that word and thought everyone knew what it meant lol!). Urticaria is also another name used over here or even 'nettle rash'.

Hopefully now he has had a good wash he will de-lump in a couple of days. Poor boy must be very itchy.
