I took Murphy clear round jumping last night and it was a complete disaster. All completely my fault and I am so cross with myself about it.

I attempted a course that was too big, knocked my confidence, Murphy took advantage, and then stopped at almost every jump (repeatedly), and kept trying to nap out of the ring :(

I have worked really hard at our jumping over the winter and I was really disappointed in myself that I let Murphy down so badly. I am usually a cr*p rider but I have honestly never let him down so much before. I just hope I haven't done any lasting damage - we are going to a show at the same place on Sunday and I hope that is slightly less of a disaster.

At least I didn't fall off - trying to look at the positives!

Slightly pointless post, but I think maybe I need a kick up the backside. And next time I need to trust my judgement and know my limitations :(

We all do it at some point. Try not to beat yourself up about it.

Take a deep breath - drop down a height or more in your classes and go for it. Murphy will forgive you!

*puts on best boots...take long run up*

Don't be so hard on yourself!! So you tried to run before you could walk, Murphy won't hate you for it, just calm down and go back a step to where you were more capable and work at improving things slowly.

I don't think you're a moron at all. Sure, you made a mistake, but you know that it's YOUR mistake. You didn't blame your horse, you've learnt from it and you're more aware of your limitations. In a funny kind of way, thats a success! I can think of a few people, professionals included, who would just beat their horses over the jumps or punish their horse for refusing. I saw a couple of examples of that at Badminton and was disgusted. So, I have more respect for you than them (don't get a big head, now...). :)

Don't worry, you're not a moron at all. It's called being human, cos all humans make a mistake at some point or another.

If you can, try to do some schooling over poles then progress to small cross poles and build it up gradually to the level you were at before you got too adventurous.

Don't worry and good luck x

Well you had to give the bigger jumps a go to see if you were ready.......you weren't, but you will be!!! Dust yourself off and try the smaller class. Do that a couple of times and you will be back to where you were.

It is horrible when you lose your confidence, but bloody well done for trying the bigger ones! Don't sweat it hun, we all make mistakes!

Becky, try not to be so hard on yourself, concentrate on all the great things that you've achieved with murf, and all the good times to come. You'll get back to where you want to be with him, just take your time, enjoy murf and have fun.

Thanks everyone :) you have all told me what I needed to hear. I will think positive and start with the small classes on Sunday. And if that scares me we'll go and do the Best Mane and Tail class instead ;)
