Well my day started very early getting up at 5.30 to trail down to Northallerton for the British Novice. Having overslept a little I was in a mad dash to get to the yard only to find that all the routes up to the yard were blocked by police cars ( I still have no idea what that was all about!) Anyway after having to go an extremely long route to get to the yard I was quite late setting off with a rather disgruntled horse that had been peacefully snoozing away only to be bundled into the trailer along with still wet stable stains.
I've never been to Northallerton EC before today so I'd got a route planner off the internet which sent me totally the wrong way and so by the time I'd rung the secretary and got some proper directions (very simple from the motorway and not remotely resembling the directions from route planner
)I arrived very late indeed.
I managed to scrape into the clear round before it finished by having a warm up that consisted of a quick trot round and a pop over 2 crosses and an upright. Not ideal but Jen popped round the CR like a star and just had 1 fence down. I have to say for a CR it was huge but Jenny was great and she jumped everything really well - no huge extravagent jumps and no going on a flier. I was also pleased with myself that my balance and position was loads more secure than our last outing.
So I decided to do the BN and was absolutely thrilled to go clear. Again Jenny jumped like a total star - couldn't fault her at all. I was drawn about 5th in the JO - I'd looked at the course plan and memorised the course (or so I thought) and Jenny jumped clear again - I was over the moon for about 30 seconds until I was informed I had missed a jump out - I am such a numpty! I can't believe I've let Jen down when she jumped so well! On the positive side though that's the best both of us have jumped so far. We seemed to hit decent strides all the way round, kept a reasonable rhythm and I didn't see any long strides and kept my balance round the whole course so I'm still really pleased with how it went even if I am kicking myself about missing that fence! Just have to move on to the next one I guess.
