i have been thinking a lot about my ponys phisical well being lately, i pay all her feed/tack/rugs and i am training her too, she is a 13.2 welsh sec c and i have had her and her feild companion for around 9 months and in this time neither her or her feild compainion have seen a vet/farrier/dentist/ not being wormed, i have addressed the owner with some of my concerns but i dont think she will do anything about it, since i have been working with them i have seen her owner up at her feild maybe 3-5times, when i am there 3-5times a week it dosent seem fair on the ponies, her feild compainion seems to have overgrown feet and my mare seems to be waering down her own feet because they are not that long and she need her teeth checking and i think she needs to be cheack over by a vet.
i would pay for all this myself but i cannot afford it as i am saving for my own horse.
i love these ponies but i am concerned about them and i dont know what to do because i dont want them to be taken by the rspca or anything but if worse comes to worse i might have to report them :(
any ideas!!!!

It would be far better for a Section C that you paid for her feet and worming than buying her rugs. If your money will only go so far then that's the choice I'd make.

^ Ditto this :)

Could you not buy the welsh c? Then she wouldnt need the companion and would probs sell?

You appear to have the pony on loan as you say you pay for feed, tack, & rugs. If this is right then you are responsible for feet, teeth & healthcare. If money is tight forget about buying rugs, a native pony can live out perfectly well without them, and use the money for the welfare issues. As for saving for your own horse, that's good, but it shouldn't be to the detriment of the poby you have at the moment.

mm she will not sell, the thing is she is wanting to buy another horse aswell it reli annoys me but i will pay for her feet and worming and mabe her teeth because it is causing rearing when i ride her and she dosent need rugs and hard feed untill winter

Please dont ride her with a bit until her teeth are sorted! My mare had teeth issues and she was rearing when i was longreining her but i had a dentist out earlier in the year so i thought she was ok, but turned out the dentist was C * ap. Got another dentist out after a week or so and she was in severe pain, all he did was touch her gums and she shot up and reared at him. I felt terrible and shes still not happy with a bit to this day :(

the agreement was with the owner i pay her £10 a week but changed it so i bought the hard feed instead all i am doing for the owner is training her for her everything else has got nothing to do with me but if i want a saddle that atually fits her i buy it and things but i know someone who had her before i did and she said that she wasnt wormed and things when she had her, she proberbly hasnt seen a vets scince she was born and shes 8years old, and it is going to be very hard to do her feet as she does pick her feet up but cannot stand on 3 legs

and i have stopped riding her with a bit because it stresses her out too much u usually rider her just in a head collar at the moment

How on earth can you "ride her and train her" if she hasn't seen a farrier in 9 months?
"maybe" her teeth? As it's "causing rearing when I ride her" ? For Goodness' sake, sort this poor pony out! If you are responsible for her, jolly well BE responsible. If you can't afford the basics of feed/shoeing/worming, you can't afford a pony.

beacuse thats what the owner wants me to do with her and i am not reposibble for the shoeing/worming/vets/dentist i am only reponsible for her hard feed when she needs it

well we changed it because then it would do her some good

I don't understand this statement?

Ultimately, if you are sharing a horse who desperately needs it's feet & teeth doing, but you are riding it all the same, (& in a headcollar because it shows to much pain in a bridle) then you should be ashamed and be making some serious changes. :(

right ok end of diccusion i have decided what i am going to do and it is best for the pony wether i like it or not, and no more harsh comments please as it not my pony but i do want the best for her :(

I am sorry but if you have taken on any responsibility regarding this pony, (and you have,by agreeing to ride/train/pay for it) you need to address these issues, either by sorting it out yourself or making it perfectly clear to the owner that they need sorting. They are welfare issues. By continuing to ride and "train" ( how can anything you do be beneficial if the pony's teeth are so bad it is rearing, and feet haven't been touched in 9 months?) this pony, you are condoning it's condition and, yes, neglect. If the owner wants it "training", it needs to be prepared, and fit for the purpose before you start. That means teeth and feet.

i know i should have addressed these earlier and i feel awfull about it and i have made it clear to the owner plenty of times but nothing happens i have even spoke to her husband about it

Y'know, I'd just leave it. Tell the owner that you are not prepared to take on the responsibility of having to do general health care and that you are so concerned that you are unable to work with the pony anymore.

I agree with FarrierLover. It sounds like a really difficult situation. The pony needs proper care and the owner should either pay for it herself or allow you to buy her and sort it all out. If she refuses to do either I think you are better off walking away and calling a welfare charity who can sort things out.
