Max usually goes 7-8 weeks between shoes.
We are having trouble this time.
Farrier came and did his feet, four weeks later i had to get him back out to refit a thrown hind shoe.

Now less than a week later, we have the other hind wobbly, and this morning his wobbly front shoe has vanished in the field somewhere.

I am really enjoying my riding at the moment and Max is starting to get quite fit, but don't want to keep stopping because of bad feet!!
Is anyone else having this trouble and if so what are you doing about it??

I feed Topspec balancer, which is good for feet, maybe too good as he grows very quickly.
I do his feet with Effol conditioner.

Advice please if anyone has any

sorry no advice, but i am in the same situ as you.

the thing is Frankie is not my horse, so even though he keeps throwing shoes i have to wait a couple of weeks for his crap farrier to come out (and i think the clenches are too short anyway) plus Frankie is not fed anything except grass and a bit of hay, so nothing helps with his feet that way

A couple of girls down out yard really struggle to keep shoes on no matter what the ground is like. Have u tried overreach boots if hes pulling them off? Apparently the ones that sit quite high at the front a low at the back (cant think of their propper name but think they are American

) they have helped for some of those. However if its not the fact they are being pulled off then the Topspec stuff I have been told works really well to harden the feet but my mate has had to go to 5 weeks between trims.

I have heard that feeding raw jelly is supposed to help feet - not sure if it works though...O and also my farrier said to try using sunflower oil rather than any "hoof oil".

Dunno if thats helped u or not

I'm having this problem too! My horse was shod all-round 5 weeks ago. I've had the farrier back out twice already for lost shoes and he's coming out again tomorrow to re-shoe all round as mine lost another one at the weekend and another is really wobbly.

His feet are actually better than last year though! I use Carr Day & Martin hoof moisturiser and the cornucrescine which has helped a lot. Have just bitten the bullet and invested in formula 4 feet supplement as I am so fed up with not being able to ride because of lost shoes.

I am having same problem, both time my horse has bearly lasted 4 weeks. About a month ago i invested in the Keratax hoof hardner and started him on Biotin, the feed suppliment, and glad to say that we are at 5 weeks now and shoes still on, but in general his hooves are not cracked like they were before! My farrier also recommended Limestone Flour i think it was, which is cheaper than Biotin!

All ours are awful at the mo. One is having to have glue-on shoes in front (is a longer story than just bad feet but they are contributing), one usually goes four weeks and is having the farrier out every other week for one lost shoe or another, my share horse is usually really good but isn't looking so good at the moment, and my horse went barefoot about two/three months ago and cracked so much off that she's footsore on hard ground - still. I tried Keratex which did naff all, so she's now on biotin (until her other supps run out then I'll put her on TopSpec over winter) and has Cornucrescine on her coronet bands and Effol on her feet. Farrier isn't going to be pleased! At last my farrier is different to the others', or he'd be even less pleased with the lot of them! I think our main problem is the fact that they've been out on wet mud overnight, then they come in to a dry stable with rubber matting and paper bedding, and it dries the feet out. Maiden was fine until I had her shoes taken off (they'll stay off now though as she's out 24/7).
It's just a horrible year for everything this year!

His feet are actually ok at the moment. Have got some Keratex, but won't use it as his feet are like rock anyway.

Last time he had lost a bit of hoof so had to have 2 glued as well as nailed, but feet condition is fine. The damn things just won't stay on.

Thanks for all your replies, at least a know i'm not alone

My horse needs shoeing every 4 - 5 weeks now. He's fed biotin and i use Kevin Bacon hoof dressing both of which seem to help. However i think the very wet ground conditions haven't helped.

4 weeks tops.......AND that is with 2 visits in 1 week to replace lost shoes. My farrier is at his wits end. He has tried welding an extension on the outer edge and now has tucked shoe right under hoof which he admits is not good for long term growth. I had two farriers twice within 3 weeks recently. What a nightmare. I do worry about my horses feet as when he is due a re shoe there is so little growth there.

Dito, my horse goes only 4 weeks. Cant understand these guys complaining there horses only go 6-8 weeks, id love mine to go that long just for once lol
