Yesterday, whilst in Newmarket, I just HAD to visit Tindalls and buy a book lol!

This is what I bought - I have volume I, so it seemed appropriate
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Matriarchs-Volume-II/Edward-L-Bowen/e/9781581501957

Upon reading a section of it I became all emotional, I used to look after one of the mares mentioned and glorified within these pages. The section in the book if anyone is intertested is 'Gold Beauty', I used to look after her dam, Stick to Beauty. Stick was a wonderful old mare when I knew her - 28 when she died IIRC. She founded a unique dynasty that include Gold Beauty herself, Maplejinksky, Dayjur, Pleasant Home and Tale of Ekati.

Made me feel very humble to have been a small part of such a great mare's life.

I love Tindalls, it is a bit of an addiction really. There's a book in there with lovely photos of old TB's and what they achieved. It is amazing to see how some are and how good they look, may have to buy it when I go to the sales in a few weeks time!
How nice that you had a part in a lovely family.

And it's always lovely to see horses you have known 'in person' in print.

Hey, if you're a geek, then Hurrah for Geeks! (Especially given the many geeky hours I have spent poring over books on Arab bloodlines LOL!

How lovely to be part of something great - and to have happy memories of a great mare as a 'person'.

Just had a look at this book on your link - who is the beautiful chestnut mare on the cover?

LOL Kate!! It's that time of year again here and we are going through nominations atm, so has got me thinking and digging deeper again.

The mare is Nellie Flag, ch.f. 1932 American Flag - Nellie Morse, Luke McLuke.
She is the foundation mare of the family that has produced the likes of Bold Forbes, Trippi, Forego, Dewan, Ancient Times, Lakeway, Sluice, Saratoga Six, Tempest Moon etc...

Tindalls is awesome - but really Barnes & Noble in Lexington is HEAVEN!!!

Bet you've been around your fair share there though!! Also made me feel a bit old to read about a 'blue hen mare' that I knew....

A few newish ones that I have personally handled and been proud of and then the good old mares that I got to meet, Diminuendo, Indian Skimmer etc. My friend got to meet Hasili last year when she went to America and I was so jealous.

That is so cool, we had the Storm Cat - Golden Apples two year old here this year and OMG you could not believe what it looked like, basically like my Welsh part bred but with horrendous legs, needless to say it'll never be broken in and is now being bred from. I'm not very good at getting photos, but have a nice one of me with Sir Percy when we were prepping him for the yearlings sales and Encosta Da Lago while I was out in Oz.

LOL That is so funny! GA was a stunning mare, with a temperament to die for! She came to the sales straight out of training and was a delight!

Didn't know you had been in Oz - Arrowfield?

Gosh, I was spoilt for working with foals and yearlings that went on to be awesome racehorses - I have a nice scar in my hair from One Cool Cat. He got loose (was not the first time) and I happened to be the person that caught him, his thanks for that was a hoof on my head - the vet stitched me up and x-rayed me lol!!

Vindication is another and Farda Amiga. I foaled Council Member, who was Gr.2 placed at Royal Ascot as a 2yo and a Stakes winner back in the US - he's just retired as the last Seattle Slew horse in training.

I was there 2004 for yearling prep and mare sales. There were many easy ladies there! Farriers that were they when I was were James Balfe who is a legend and Cahill (that's how I think it was spelt). I went out with Peintre Celebre's stallion man too.
