Hi i posted a couple of weeks ago for some help with insurance for a 19yo in a 3.5T.
I have tried Shearwater, 4 counties as recommended on here but no luck and am awaiting a call back from NFU.

Does anyone else have any ideas ???

Thanks

I've driven my 3.5t lorry since 19 years old.

Yep it's legal - you can dive up to 3.5t on a new car licence (test passed after 1997) or if you are lucky and passed your test before 1997 you can drive up to 7.5t.

Our lorry is insured with NFU - they were fine with me but I was just a named driver initially as my mum also drove.

Yes it is legal for a 19yo to drive as she passed her test over 2.5years ago. I am still waiting for NFU to call me back. I have the horses insured with them. Me and my OH will be the main drivers but there might be the odd occasion when i need to have the option for her to drive..... fingers crossed

I'm sure NFU will be fine - they insured me no worries and insured me as a learner on the bigger horsebox when we got it.

I now can't drive it due to the change in who can supervise learner lorry drivers so am doing my Cat C lorry licence soon!!!

NFU are likely to provide cover. If not, try the likes of SEIB, KBIS, Towergate LLoyd and Whyte for quotations.

NFU will probably provide but you will find they will be hugley expensive
I do like NFU have my horses with them but for the horse box they just didn't come close!

I am insured on a 7.5tn horse box since I was 20 by Drayton Insurance services, they have been very very good with me, only made one claim for a new windscreen when it cracked and it was sorted within 3 days of reporting it. I would think they will be more competitive.

that's ridiculous. Mine lorry ins is £300 for my mum and dad and me and has been that sort of price since we first insured our 3.5t with them when I was 19.

Maybe try SEIB? I had horses insured with them for a while and they were good.

What I would have expected from NFU tbh

Think I was quoted about £700 when I was classed as a young driver (anyone under 25) Mine is £245 a year for fully comp for any driver over 25 with a 5000 per year milage limit. When I was a "young driver" I had the same any driver cover plus I added one named young driver (me) to the policy and this cost me £295 per year. My brakedown cover is more than my insurance and I always thought it would be the opposite way round.
