I can't tell you how wet it is here today. When I drove down for the papers the road was a complete river, and the spray went on the roof of my car it was so deep. I checked our herd and they are all tucked under a big banked holly hedge, luckily we have plenty of shelter, they refuse to use the barns once the spring gass has arrived.
What normally happens to an event when it's this wet, do they run the same thing later in the year?
We are loathe to risk our horses in deep going now after Jonty damaged her tendon last year, so even if they run it we may just do the dressage and SJ.
Feeling miserable as I was really looking forward to this event, long way for us but sounded a great meeting place for so many forum members...
Look out the rest of the country, Devon is getting monsoon conditions and it is moving Northwards...

Sorry to say that in Bath it's raining....

Yesterday was lovely though, really sunny with a drying wind. Fingers crossed for you all though

Where I work is only 15mins from the show ground and we are flooded. Even on the higher ground the going is very sticky. But if we have some sun and wind it may dry out enough.

If it is cancelled they won't re run at a later date that will be it!

Hope if they do cancel they don't leave it to the very last minute. We are stabling the night before and there will be nothing worse than to drive up and find it is cancelled.

It is still absolutly throwing it down here so the rest of the country has a good few more hours of it!

Thanks Sue, just what we need!

We need more rain like holes in the head, hasn't been this wet here for over ten years so I do sympathise. The only good thing is the grass is appearing from the depths of the lakes so they can paddle while they eat!

Don't know about re scheduling; depends if there are locally any dates available (not least the availability of the legion of helpers they need, if there's something else on in area they might be stuck), also who owns the land and their plans for it as well. It might also depend on whether they have weather insurance too, might just be simpler and cheaper to cancel altogether as some point to points do. Hope for your sakes they can run it again - and you're not tied up with anything else on that day!

The year I went to B&W it had been wet the week before but they still ran it. I drove down and stabled over night only to be put last in the section the following day. That night we have huge amounts of rain plus gale force winds. Twas horrid. Although the parking was great the dressage was swamp and the Sjing was like jumping in gravy, we struggled just walking in it, let alone riding a horse over fences.
The xc too was not great, although the fence judges were there raking over and stamping in the take off and landings. I had already decided not to run xc that day, but i was annoyed that they continued to run in such bottomless conditions.
We are still due rain this week, and the fields round our way are flooded.
I really think to be fair on everyone that they cancel it, as not many would want to risk their horses so early in the season.

Just looked at long range weather for the area which is not great. Late to go in our section 160 will have run XC in PN before we start so I too am really starting to hope they will cancel.

Won't risk deep going just not worth it.

Thing is, if they run the event you feel like you should go (do you know what i mean?). But then its an expensive combined training exercise....but not only that, the amount of fuel and stabling fees.
Its the first run for many and I personally wouldnt want to run a young or experienced horse on it unless i really had too ie badminton or championships.
I guess years ago, this kind of ground was perfect for my old boy, he loved mud and wouldnt go on hard ground.

They have to learn to go in poor conditions and a lot of people would hunt in wet ground.

HOWEVER it is different when over a 100 horses have really cut into the ground and made it into a quagmire. We will probably travel if on but not run if conditions unsuitable. I have pulled out on the day after dressage before my horses are more important than the chance of a rossette.

Couldnt agree more.
I would hunt tomorrow, wouldnt make any difference. But I can pick and choose where i go and if i want to jump or when i want to go home.
After Winston turning his nose up at the unsuitable ground at B&W last time he hunted the rest of the season and sure helped when the ground was less perfect at other events.

Alot of it is the luck of the draw. If you were running near the beginning of the day then fine, but if you are last to go in a two day event on the second day the ground would be awful. However, they do throw shingle down infront and after fences at B&W.

My trainer drove past the site and said it was covered in ground water which has not soaked away. I can see the intro running and then calling the 2nd day off as at least they will recoup some of their costs. If they run the dressage then everyone loses their money on that day. I am walking the course on Friday so will be able to report back.

It's not fair

I'm going BSJA if its cancelled, Emily's jumping Moon for me on Friday so should have a beautifully schooled lean mean showjumper!!!

We have 4 running from our yard inlcuding one poor soul who is very last to go on sunday. Everyones making optomistic noises but you can see in their eyes that no one is holding out too much hope. B+W isnt renowned for its ability to drain!

I was hoping someone was going to have a look on Friday because I'm getting to the stage I'm not sure it is worth travelling. I'm due to go XC pm on Sunday and I can't see the ground being in any fit state.

By the way just heard the waether for the next 5 days which is very unsettled with plenty more rain. I hope they do the sensible thing and cancel early.

i'm judging and did so last year, and they did cancelled on the morning of comp but that was due to snow NOT rain....
But i would think if ground is flooded they'll have to cancel earlier

Fingers crossed for everyone running on those days, I can't get any other info off be website it just says next to tweseldown cancelled!!

No me neither!
Struggling, and feel the writing is too small! needs to be more IN YOUR FACE with important stuff like cancelling events IMO.

I reckon it might run you know.. lovely today, ment to be nice again tomorrow, not so nice on Fri, but then nice again for the weekend....

All is not lost just yet
