I don't know if any of you remember the problems I was having with Rubys stifle? after the vet injected it with steriod injections it seemed alot better, he gave me the go ahead to start riding again. I have taken things very slowly for the past 2 months and a bit. Hacking out 5-6 times a week, in walk and trot (mostly walk) lots and lots of hill work! She has built up some muscle over her hind quarters. But the last 2 rides, she hasn't felt right. She has her ears pricked forwards and is happy to move forwards, still playing with her friends in the field etc and fine in herself.

It isn't every stride, but every few strides or so. She isn't using her leg properly, instead of lifting the leg underneath her, she will pick it up and place it down again. It is more noticeable when we are going down a hill. It is also clicking (has always done this though)

I have started her on a Glucosimine (sp?) supplement about 2 weeks ago, so hopefully this will help. She is living out at the moment, so she is constantly moving that stifle.

I think I will have to have the vet back out :( I'm just so down about it all. I can't see her ever coming right.

Two months is a relatively short time since she was brought back to work - and it could be that you've over done it - especially if you've been doing a lot of hillwork.

Don't despair. Get the vet back out for another check. But I'm sure she'll get there eventually.

Perhaps I have been overdoing it. I will give the vet a call and see what he says. I will also change my route so theres less hills and more straight road and see if that makes a diference. I just feel so dis-heartned by it all. I had so many plans for us and for the past year it seems all I have done is roadwork hacks. I guess thats part of owning Horses.
