Thanks to those who took time to offer advice and wish me luck on my other thread. Took my test this morning driving through Guildford and Woking town centres. Passed with just 4 minors. Well chuffed. Pick up my first ever horsebox next Sat. Can't wait!

Not easy. Really had to think about driving correctly and smoothly. Would be easier if you were already used to a van or smaller lorry but to go from car to 12 tonne truck was a big challenge.

Yup have lorry lined up. X reg DAF. Can't wait to pick it up next weekend. Orange horse is about to start canter work so aiming for some dressage early December as no jumping till early Feb.

well done!! hopefully will have mine very soon either this side of xmas or just after! scary thought that is. i too have no experience in a lorry and only drive around in a polo, i have however driven a tractor and trailer a few times wonder if its similar! how long did it take from start (medical) to finish (test) to get yours?

I initially paid for it end of june, medical was on 14th july. immediately put in for the theory as knew it would be a few wks which was plenty of time to study for it. did theory and hazard perception on 17th August. First practical course they offered me was on 11th October but couldn't take that one as couldn't get time off work. Next available one was the one I just did - I had Friday, Mon, Tue and test today. Seriously intense. So it does take a while to get through it all.

I have my B+E trailer licence - did that in 2008 but it's nothing like driving a 12T lorry. 12T is about the minimum you can take the full Cat C test in and advise finding a school who has trucks that size as it's plenty. One of the others at this school was 18T and was huge compared to mine! I struggled enough with my one.

Here is a piccie of me, my instructor and the truck!

Well done!! Just done my medical and applied for cat C1.

Do you know if you can book your theory and your actual test before you receive your provisional licence as the DVLA tell me it will take them 3 weeks to send me the provisional .

Not usually - Use the waiting time for revision

Never book a practical before passing theory - just in case theory goes bottoms up
