And amongst the mud, the pony trying to eat the string (and run off with it) I 'think' I got it. Well, as far as a rough measurement goes, she is currently standing at 12.1 and a bit, she is 21 and half months old and the string predicts her at 13.1 and a bit - so not far off her 'meant to be 13.2 ' prediction. I got in a right knot at one point and had to measure my mare too - just to see if I was getting the right idea. The look of disgust while I was there with string around her fetlocks was a picture - she puts up with me doing all manor of cowboyish things!! I got her at 15hands, and as she is 15hands, was happy with my efforts on the filly! Obviously only time will really tell, but its quite fun to try. I will officially measure filly features on her 2nd birthday - 1st April and then add a hand, as I've heard that is another way?

I tried to do this on my 19 month old filly. It said she would make 12 hands. I think I must have done it wrong as she currently stands 14.1hh at the withers and 14.2hh at the croup. Either that or she is going to shrink!

Isn't there another string test? Something about putting the string from the middle of the knee to the fetlock and if it's say, 14 inches, then the pony will grown to 14hh?

That might not be correct but I'm sure I saw that somewhere.

This is the one that I did, and I got 12". Prehaps she has really short cannon's ? I'm assuming I just measured wrong. Think I will try the other test !

Will put pics up when she's finished she has grown in her barrell too! I also checked all 11 other horses at the yard and they were within 1/2 inch of the measurement, so it's looking hopeful!
