Oliver has a windgall on his right hind. I'm wondering if there's something going on "in there" now as Bailey's windgall was an outward sign of his fetlock bone chip fracture.

He seems to be ok in walk and trot, no heat in it (which Bailey did have I must admit).

Have hosed it and it didn't seem to go down any, although I would say it went down a touch whilst being ridden. Hannah was only on board for 30 mins and most of the time she was in walk doing serpentines, loops, circles, figures of eight etc.

Only trotted a few times to see how he looked.

So here it was before riding:

And again, after riding and hosing:

He's already going to be off until Thursday, irrespective of his windgall, as Hannah's gone to stay at her dad's house for till Wednesday evening.

So, any thoughts?

Has he done much roadwork recently or work on hard ground? It could be nothing but I would avoid work on hard surfaces and cold hose and bandage for a few days just in case and obviously keep an eye that it doesn't get any bigger, have any heat or show any signs of lameness.

My 4yo mare got one like that last summer. She must have been galloping round the field on the hard ground.. I gave her a week off and it went down completely.

Looks like a tendinous windgall (swelling of the tendon sheath) which I think are caused more by uneven ground, jumping etc (but I could be wrong

.
If s/he were mine, I'd probably not be too worried unless s/he was unlevel, or it started getting bigger.

Hasnt he just done a rally, and some jumping? Probably nothing to be on alert about, and as you say it appears to have gone down after exercise.

Yes, he just did a pc rally but that was indoors on a lovely surface.

The horse paddocks at home are baked hard though by the sun and where horses have been trampling, they're not completely level either.

Perhaps he's had a hoolie in the field. He's tracking up in walk and trot and there is no heat in the joint at all.

Gah....do you think they do it on purpose to worry us?

Fingers crossed the same happens with Oliver too.

It's more to the inside of the joint as well. I did wonder if he'd clipped himself when they were jumping at the PC rally as his legs were all over the place, being a baby who'd never jumped before.

Have the same on my lad... and I felt really sick when i found them. They went down when theground was softer but now its harder they're back. I put ice-tight on them and that made a difference but hes never lame on it so I *try* not to worry
