I don't believe it- dog slimming tablets..... (Victor Meldrew style!!)

First its fat kids and obese adults that are taking over the headlines now we have the slimming tablets for DOGS!!!!!

What in *ods name is this blasted world coming too????

Your dogs getting fat.... SO feed it less and give it more excercise...... arrggghhhh I hate hearing this sort of thing on the news. (Have a personal hate of this type of thing as "kind" neighbours basically killed our dog with feeding her behind our back! And their own dog has a back that is @ 1ft across and flat

oooooh sorry but it gets my back up. Really do worry about what is happening to the "world!" No wonder my other half doesn't want ot bring a child into the world.

Vets are in business. So are drug companies. People with pets must logically have spare money. Hmmm... Rocket science it ain't! And I too have been sounding like Victor Meldrew all day.

Surely it goes over the Vets ethics? they should be encouraging good management etc not prescribing tablets for something that is manageable, what happened to the regular "doggie weight watchers"?

Speaking as a vet who sees lots of overweight pets, I have received lots of leaflets recently regarding the new weight loss tablets but none of them show any scientific data as to how they actually work - so I remain highly skeptical that they do!
I would say on the whole people who are looking for a 'quick fix' answer to a weight problem rarely succeed and so its unlikely even if these tablets are clinically proven that they would work without being used in conjunction with a calorie controlled diet and exercise program.
I will await further information.

I did wonder about this as it said on the radio 'the tablets will only work when used as part of a good diet and exercise regime'. WTF just put your dog on a diet and exercise it more, this is what I do if ever my dog seems a little tubby!! Is this not just common sense?

How ridiculous. It is far easier to control the weight of a dog than a child - a dog after all isn't going to nick money from around the house and go down to the chip shop!

Just feed the blasted things less and give them some exercise!

i am a vet but nothing to do with this! have received stacks of info on it recently, but still not convinced and certainly not planning on prescribing it. fat dogs need diet and more exercise - simple as that.
