I don't care if it's been done before

I too used to have a very conspicuous leopard spot horse (often made more so by her awful behaviour!) but wore Hi-Viz at all times. Before it was readily available I used to make sure that I wore the most colourful clothes I could find. I bought a bright pink pufa jacket with a silver thread running through it, to try and make us more visible. Have a less visible Appy now, we wear, between us, leg bands, jacket, hat band, exercise sheet (when the weather is acceptable) and gloves :D

Sad isn't it... I know a YM that actually BULLY liveries for wearing hi-vis caus it's 'cheap and tacky and no one takes any notice of it in the first place'. It's outrageous

Forgot to say that we made it a rule at the Riding Club that on any ride organized by the club, Hi-Viz must be worn, and spare tabards are handed out to anyone who 'forgets' to bring it. :)

We have a newlyish rebroken horse, who can be very spooky, I am young but my sister isn't but it's just too help him get used to it, he's been there and done it all before but just to be on the safe side as the road we hack along cars fly up it, They also like walking so our hacks turn into family outings!

like!:) my bfriend comes out with me too (i ride he walks) but we are trying to get fit... but failing miserably:eek:

Reading this and all I can think about is the mention of a 'polite' tabard?? Do people have rude ones? I'm lost....

I'm amazed how many people don't wear it - including a Pony Club instructor hacking on roads, in and out of shade. The extra seconds it took to see her could literally be the difference between life and death.

Okay okay, you've convinced me, I don't normally wear it, I have a very conspicuous 17hh leopard spotted horse and I never go on busy roads, but you've convinced me, I shall wear hi viz from now on, or at the very least, a bright green jumper, I draw the line at wearing any shade of pink though

I *like* this post, very much :)

I cant see why people dont wear it, i pop on bp then hi-viz waist coat with flashing lights, just incase i get caught out i can pop the lights on.
So it looks pants, so its not cool, so it could save mine and my horses lives so do the first to statements really matter.
But you know what, the fact some people still dont wear hats and loads of people still dont wear bp, the chances of them wearing hi-viz unfortunately i think is nil.
Sadly they forget, their precious horses dont have a choice in not being seen

It's sort of got a blue and white check pattern in a line and looks a bit like it says POLICE, makes you look twice, reckon it makes drivers a bit more respectful if they reckon they're going to get in trouble for cleaning their wing mirrors on the boys fur...

I always wear my hi viz tabard and Dixie gets an assortment of hi-viz accessories depending on visibility :D

Comments have been made about the extent of hi-viz he has had to suffer on some occastion ;) but the way I see it is that if it gives drives a few more seconds to see us, it's worth it. Whenever people comment about the extent of our hi-viz I always point out how much easier it is to spot cyclists on the road when they are wearing hi-viz - that seems to do the trick.

I think there are still a lot of riders that see hi-viz as the domain of the nervous or inexperienced rider. This is crackers - it is the domain of the clued up rider who wants to give their horse the best possible chance to get back home in one piece.

I was going to go round to our local pub last night and sort out some teenagers in mine - till I realsied I'd left it at the yard :D

I really hated the hi vis that had the stupid "does my bum look big in this" c*** on them tho - just didn't seem serious enough for a serious issue. Or am I just old and in need of a good "humour jolt" :o

To me thats a way of getting people who don't want to wear it because it's not 'cool' to wear it, if it has some funny slogan thing on it, it's more 'cool' to wear it
