Since moving my boy back home about a year ago as the nice little yard I was at had no grass and my boy was loosing too much weight,
I don't have anyone to ride with and don't feel like I want to spend much time with my horses. Also I just wear leggings now ( with holes in 🙀)
and I'm not bothered about wearing nice boots or jods or buying nice new things for my horse.
Also I feel my knowledge is lagging and I'm just not making any effort in my schooling etc.
I want to move back to another yard but money is too tight this year as I've got a baby and a youngster to break in.
Does anyone else who has their horses on their own yard or at home feel like this? Do you still make an effort and buy nice horsey gear? :)

I got a nice new pair of jods last year and have worn them once, my ponies bride is made out of bits from 3 different bridles... needless to say we generally look like tramps, but the pony doesn't care what I'm wearing or if every part of his bridle matches.

If i ever moved to a proper yard I would have to buy proper respectable stuff or only venture down under the cover of darkness because the shame might be to much otherwise :D

Sadly I don't have enough spare money to care about appearances so as long as stuff works I'm happy! I do always wear jods to ride though as I have more jods than other clothes :-) I rent land which is muddy at the mo so I suppose if I was on a yard I might not wear wellies 24/7!

You need to get a horsey pal nearby to do things with and go to some clinics and things to get your mojo back (been there, this has worked for me :) ).

Get on riding buddies on FB :D

My horse might be coming home again(!) soon and I always feel the same as you. Lonely with a lack of motivation.
I have learnt though, that it does make you feel nicer to be dressed smartly and you can still have lessons etc which will help with your confidence and knowledge.
Have you got any yards/livery/grazing nearby with people you could approach to ride with?

Even though I'm on my own, time is always short & my stables aren't the smartest I try my hardest not to let standards slip.
Magic brushes are a godsend, they knock the caked on muck off in seconds.
I set aside an hour or so every weekend to have a good deep clean, wash tail & trim up the horses. Even if it only lasts one ride before they're caked in mud again :D
I'm trying my best to thoroughly clean all tack once a week....Saturday night in front of TV with a glass of wine is my favourite.
I meet friends for a hack, get out to a competition or go for a lesson at least once a week.
I keep my riding boots clean & change into them before riding.
I keep an eye on EBay for discounted/cheap branded riding clothes.
Same for nice saddlecloths etc - having nice, new stuff always inspires me.
Rope a friend into coming & taking some photos/videos of you riding
Go & watch some competitions - this time of year in eventing all the big names are trying to get their 4* horses runs so you can often catch them at smaller (free or cheap to enter events) nothing like seeing a few pros in action to inspire :)

I have my own place (not at home) and have been feeling the same - advertised for a sharer and the first girl that came out was perfect. I like her a lot and am so much more motivated to get on than I was. Am lucky in that I have two horses so we can ride together :)

Thanks, unfortunately there are no yards near me. I did advertise for a sharer when I was pregnant and it was a nightmare, no one could really ride my horse, he's quite sharp and not really a relaxing ride. He's better off on a proper yard where he can be ridden properly, he used to be shown but for the past few years has just been a happy / not so happy hacker! I'm looking to sell him soon and then il look to move back to a yard if I can afford it.
I just feel so out of the loop so to speak!

Don't give up on advertising - there will be people out there who can ride your horse, it's just a case of finding the right one.

I advertised my spooky pony as available for a rider and stated in the advert that he is forward going, there is no school so it's hacking only, he needs a lightweight rider, etc, etc... I didn't think I would find anyone who would be capable and willing but I did. Right time, right place.
