I have two horses unclipped and live out 24/7 today I have rugged today because snow and then heavy rain forecast. Marley who is like a yehti (s?) just has a rain sheet on to keep him dry overnight and maizie has a lightweight because she's not as hairy. For all you out there that keep them au natural did I do the right thing. The rugs will be off tomorrow though. Shelter is not great because the trees are bare. Yours thoughts?

The only trouble with a rain sheet with no fill is that they flatten the horses coat, and prevent it being able to lift the hairs and trap warm air next to the skin - the bodies natural way of keeping itself warm.

Theyre fine when the temps are mild and you just want to keep the rain off them but with minus temps you'd be better either leaving him naked or using a LW 100 gram rug :)

Im undecided about mine atm, i think she will stay naked as we have good natural hedges and theyve got ad lib haylege and shes like a barrel atm !
