Youngster at our yard had been brought a brand new fly rug but its owner which it wore proudly for the first time yesterday. Me and housemate arrived at yard at 6ish and it was wearing it, got back from second hack about 9pm and although didn't realise significance fly rug had gone.

Whilst I mucked out housemate went for a fag, she noticed all the other horses in the surrounding paddock were standing and looking towards the field where this youngster was basically watching. Then she heard some ripping noises...

she went over to look to find youngster with front feet firmly planted on fly rug on floor whilst ripping it apart with its teeth!

She went in to rescue what was left of the rug but shall we just say its will cost most to repair than replace!!!!

So yes clever youngster who obviously didn't like it had removed and trashed rug, just as well wasn't a really expensive one but don't suppose owners are best pleased as literally a day old!!

made us giggle though especially when housemate rung YO to tell her of her discovery

My mare did the same thing - she had hers on all of a few hours and when I went back she was wearing it like a bib. She had got it off her head, the neck cover was still attached and spun round and she had made 2 lovely holes so she could put her front feet through it and still walk around for grass (not stupid).
Like you said no way would you repair it as it wouldve been more expensive than buying a new one. Took it she didnt like it and doused her in fly spray instead - worked out cheaper in he long run than buying new fly rugs all the time
