Can someone please explain? As I understand it, on elevator bridles the strap of the noseband goes through two slots on the head piece so it's not applying pressure to the back of the head. How does that work? Isn't there still pressure through the headpiece?

And are they the same as comfort bridles?

Both the nose band and check peices do up both sides rather than the traditional nose band going over the head and back down the other side, that way only one peice of padded leather work goes over the head and is cut away slightly behind the ears. Can't really see (and I have one) that having just one head peice makes any difference to the poll pressure I think it's the fact its cut away from the ears that is the benefit and there is less bulk going through the browband so no pressure point there either. I also had mine without a throatlash, can't see the point of those (in dressage anyway!)

I actually bought it as I needed a double anyway and I liked the leather work on it, and I happened to be in Horsesense Saddlers (the founders) at the time.

It uses a larger surface area to stop the noseband strap digging into the poll.

That said this only really causes a problem when dressage peeps overtighten their nosebands in the first place.

The other use is that they look damn cool in coloured versions:

Soz TOG but my cheeky dressage instructor was complaining my horse didn't have enough holes in his bridle!! (I'll take the noseband off next time!!)

I hate doing it up that tight, I cannot see how that is comfy for a horse! Apparently even the Germans thought he had his nosebands tight... now that IS saying something
