I dont like the grand national, I dont really see the point in it. But why do people HATE it so much? look at Badminton horse trials.. 4 miles of galloping with huge obsticles in the way.. whats the difference between them? people love eventing but not racing? why?

I don't hate the grand national, but the difference is eventing or team chasing you are not sending 40+ horses over the same fence at the same time at break neck speeds and then wondering why so many fall/die when the landing is littered with fallen horses!!!!

IMO its because its advertised and televised so strongly.... It puts it in the public eye. The worst thing is that the public are not made aware of how some horses are treated when their careers are over.... There is also some proper spectacular propaganda out there....

I find the Grand National terrifying which is why personally I don't enjoy it. I think its just the disorder of so many horses approaching those massive fences together so that as well as the chance of getting a bad stride and falling, there is also the risk of tripping each other up, landing on top of one another etc.

With eventing, its still nerve racking but with a experienced rider and sufficiently fit and talented horse the chances of a successful round are high and there's not as much left to chance, owing to the lack of horses running so close to each other....its very difficult to compare 2 such completely different sports, but its the risk of so many horses jumping together which I find too much...
