Ruby appears to be completly sound! :D:D:D *touches every bit of wood within a mile radius*

For those of you who deosn't know Ruby's issues...

Got her 5* vetted in May 2011, vet commented she has muscle wastage on one side and was weak, but would come right with work. Bought her. Did light schooling and hacking with her. 3 months in and she was lame, she didn't want to pick her feet up and kept falling over when I tried. Got the vet, who said she needed physio, had a pysio out so said give her time off and in hand walk her with stretches (this lasted 3 months) on 2nd session pysio said Ruby appeared worse so needed the vet. Vet came out and said she needed steriod injections into her stifle joint as that was the problem and it never really "activated" properly. She had the injections and I started bringing her back in to work very slowly (no schooling or lunging though) just walking hacks on the road. Gradually introduced trot. Started to school (no circles and no more then once a week) was still slightly weak but not lame. Moved to new yard (3 months ago) had no choice but to school twice in a week, the second time she was lame. Got her out hacking again and she came sound. Carried on with hacking and upped her work load (hacked 5-6 times a week) schooled her and she was lame in trot on one rein. Went back to hacking for another month to continue getting her stronger behind.

Then yesterday I bit the bullet and tried her in the school again (had decided before hand, if she was worse or the same I would get vet back out), warmed up in walk and she was a nightmare (but sound) she was being very silly and spooky. Decided to untack her in the school and the little moo did a runner (bucking, farting and letting all her energy out) however she looked very much sound and wasn't favouring one rein either. Got my YO to watch and she was impressed with how she was moving. Was worried she may be feeling a little stiff this morning, but seemed absolutly fine. I am hoping I can begin to introduce a light schooling session once a week, so long as she hacks around 4 times a week, she should be able to manage it.

It's taken over a year, but she finally looks as though she has filled out on her bum and her stifle is now strong enough to work, please keep fingers and toes crossed for me that this continues!!

Fabulous. My daughter bought a weak horse who is finally starting to gain his strength. Little b****r was actually able to spook in canter and buck her off at the weekend. Didn't have the strength to do that a few months ago and not sure daughter see's that as a positive!
