i dont want to say it but ...

My first pony was a 13.2 Highland that I was still riding when I was 5'8". He always took the mickey out of an experienced rider but was as good as gold with a novice.

How tall are you?
Honestly I LOVE riding my 13.3 cob and the other smaller ponies at work compared to the 15hh+ TB horses there, and I'm 5'11!

It will be the best decision you will ever make buying a chunky pony!

Oh my gosh no way, you will be fine! I have a TB but worked on a highland stud. My legs go down further on my 16hh tb than on a 13hh highland. They are very wide, go and get trying a few and good luck :)

After my gelding TB was PTS in October, I went out and bought a 13.2hh New Forest X. She's currently rising 3, so I'm hoping she'l make 14hh, but if not, then bring on the roller skates! I've also always had TBs, but I just wanted something different.....and if my TB mare went tomorrow I'd go out and buy another pony!

Yes! Get a highland! My friend who is over 6 foot rides my boy and is always amazed that he doesn't feel ridiculous on him. You'll be surprised how well they take up your leg. I can pm some pics if you want?

Do it!! :D

I have a 16.3hh tb and last year invested in my 14.1hh connemara 5 year old, just because I've always wanted a pony! So I just did it, and guess what, he's awesome!

I'm 5ft6" and look fine on both my two boys. But I have a long body and short legs, but hey, I get to ride my pony so not complaining!

....I want one too! I have told my hubby it will make an excellent hack for him to accompany me and our 1yo daughter... He isn't as adverse to the idea as I thought he would be either... Tee hee!

I'm going to show this thread to my daughter. She is 11 and 5ft 2 and has been getting a lot of grief about moving onto a bigger pony than her 12.2 (from pc) She decided not to rejoin and just have fun on her ponio. Her pony is pretty special but at times she takes some riding, don't think the other kids could do it. I have admitted to her that if pony were 16h you wouldn't catch me getting on!!! Daughter has decided to never sell her pony and ride her until the end!!!! Luckily she's a light weight so she may just get away with it:D

mrmac aged 24 I was still riding a loaned 12.1hh exmoor!! Definately tell your daughter not to worry and try becoming a Riding Club Junior instead it's much more friendy and lots of people on ponies.

OP highlands are fab or get a connemara!!

12.2 is very small and while the pony can probably carry her fine, at 5'2 your daughter would probably feel more comfortable riding something a bit bigger. There's nothing wrong with staying on ponies as an adult, my two are only 14.2, but being under-horsed isn't much fun and hinders your riding. I'd go for a hand or two upwards for her to keep if I were you.

Mrmac my daughter is the same, nearly 16, 5'1" and 6 and a half stone! Rides a 13.1 welsh section b who is glorious to watch but can be a complete nutter! If he was big enough, you wouldn't get me on him! She decided to sell him due to peer pressure but changed her mind because she just loves him too much, and I think he will be with us forever now.
