Today I dug out a stable lined with chippings from a poplar tree. It must have been damp when it was put in as it had heated up and got a bit smokey! Could have been mould but was left pale grey and dusty.
Anyway I dug it out in a cloud of dust, went home and had a snooze ('cause I'm on nights tonight) and when I woke up I was having trouble breathing. Still struggling now. Any ideas or have I just got swine flu?

unless you have a temperature its not swine flu! lol. take some piriton or such like which should help if it was the bedding, and make sure if you;re nose runs you blow not sniff, last thing you want is to suck is back into your body!!

Didn't think about Piriton - the house is full of it as the wife's allergic to horses. Hoping lemsip and coffee will see me through to 7 am when I can go home. Fortunately not a busy night.
Ta.

I get the same when I clean my 30+ rabbits out who are bedded on shavings. I find a mask makes my face sweat, so I seleotape a square of kitchen towel across my nose and mouth. I look a bit strange, but least I can breathe the next day.

Sounds like this has triggered asthma and you need a salbutamol inhaler, I don't think antihistamines will help much and am pretty certain lempsip won't do any good!! If you are struggling to breathe or find your breathing is becoming more difficult for goodness sake get to a doctor or AandE NOW!

Yeah, I had that for a week. Really freaked me out. Don't google shortness of breath as a symptom if you're a bit of a hypercondriac (yikes! - that was a tricky spell!). Definately go with the advice to visit the doctor. Having said that though, mine disipated after a few days and I'd have completely forgotten about the whole episode if I hadn't read this thread!

If you're having trouble breathing go straight to A+E. They will put you on a nebuliser and all will be well! I expect they will also say you need to go to your doc and get checked over, but they always say don't mess with breathing problems, get it sorted at A+E.

Sounds like an allergic reaction to mold spores. Were these fresh chippings from a tree surgeon, because these would certainly go mouldy very quickly.

Thanks Guys. Nice to now you care, I started feeling better about 3 am - I'm on nights at the mo so wasn't being kept up by it. My wife appears to be suffering now , so thinking it was more likely to be a bug. It was good to see the groom that helped me was OK today as well!
I know some forms of grain mould can be pretty fatal , so I will be more careful in future anyway.
