Just had the vet out as Zak has been lame for the last week, but being told it would go down as it was probably just bruising from hunting i didnt get the vet out earlier, and the vet found an abcess under his shoe

I feel terrible that he has been in such pain and its my fault. From now on i will always get the vet out-learnt my lesson. Sorry just a feel bad post

Aww try not to feel bad..I did the same left it for a few days as people say oh dont get the vet out straightaway it will just be a bruise..turned out to be an abcess as she had stood on something really sharp and i felt so bad making her wait days because I listened to other people!

If you get the vet to an abcess TOO soon, they inevitably can't find it! Basically the test is - if it gets worse over 24 hours, it is almost certainly an abcess. If it gets better, it's a bruise. If I suspect an abcess, I hot tub and poultice for a day or two to draw it downwards, then get the farrier rather than the vet. (My vet is GOOD with abcesses, but my farrier is better at taking shoes off!)

No offence, but no you won't because all abscesses start off as mild lameness which everyone is convinced is a bruised sole....it's only when it gets worse and horse is obviously lame...that we all realise

Yeh but i i have never dealt with an abscess before, so know i know that if he is persistantly lame it could be an abcsess!!
