I feel terrible!

Im such a bad Mum, I feel really bad thismorning!

I had Arch tied up in the wash box last night and where it used to be a stable there is still a bar across the top from the wall to the stable next door. I was just about to tack him up when he started fidgeting and moving about, so I shouted at him to stand still and he shat himself and smacked his head on the bar, broke loose and legged it. I caught him and he was shacking bless him, on further inspection he'd banged his head right above his eye and taken all the hair off and he's really sore and wouldnt let me near it. I feel really bad that I got cross and his head must really hurt. My poor baby, please tell me Im not a bad Mum!!!

of course your not! they need telling off sometimes abbey is the same she never stands still so she get a mouth full! that will teach him he wont do it again, bet he will stand still from now on! ha

He'll think twice about fidgeting again!!
My horse bit my friend while he was at her yard, she shouted at him and before she got a chance to smack him he reared up and whacked his face on the beam - he cut his face open and 6 years on still has the massive scar to prove it!! However he now thinks twice about biting!!
If your horse hadn't been fidgeting it wouldn't have happened - it's not your fault!!

He did it to himself because he was being a fidget, not your fault he overreacted! It is perfectly reasonable to expect your boy to stand still while you tack him up and he just learnt the hard way to behave himself.

Seriously, you didn't know he would over-react and headbutt the bar quite so accurately...so I don't think you can be held responsible...horse heads are quite solid, so he should be ok.

Jed bit me this morning so he got a smack on the nose. Did it stop him???......no it bladdy dint, he still carried on.

Perhaps if he hit his head then he mite think twice next time!!

So far as OP goes no you're not a bad mum. As others have rightly said if he hadn't been fidgeting he would not have done it to himself. He has himself to blame and not you so don't feel sorry about it.
It is very reasonable to expect a horse to stand still when being groomed, tacked up etc. Only the other week I was in the stable after grooming Doug and was crouching down oiling his feet. He tried to walk into me in a rushed bid to get to the stable door ( he was untied at this point though). He cracked me straight in the head as his leg kicked me as he moved and so he got told off and a kick back. I didn't feel sorry about it because it was bad behaviour on his part. I hadn't spent ages getting him ready ( so should not have been impatient) and it was bolshy, unacceptable behaviour and bad manners!
