No, I've not been in the sun for too long :) Yesterday I took a tumble when the horse I was on decided that if I wanted to go over the jump I could do it without him. So he slammed his brakes on and I went solo. So why am I grinning? One year ago I fell off for the first time ever and broke my collar bone and had to have it pinned. So for me falling off = pain and breaking. Yesterday I landed on my side and cushioned by my body protector I barely felt any impact.
I didn't realise how important it was for me to learn that I can fall off and not get injured. I remounted and carried on jumping still grinning :D pointless post I know but great to know that the BP works well. :) I will try not to make a habit if it though.

Tonibird.. He lulled me into a false sense of security by jumping really well earlier on for me. But yes, fear of falling is a great incentive.

Mulledwine :) thank you. I hope mini has many soft landings if she has to do it 16 times :O

I'm glad your ok but this is not a pointless post at all.

I've only had my ex racer since May and i'm waiting to take a tumble (a nice easy one of course, i've had a couple of iffy moments where i ended up on her neck and she just stopped and stared back at me), i've even considered gently throwing myself off in the school, why? to see what she does. I actually have no idea what she will do, will she ****** off or hang around i have no idea, though i do know the sooner it happens the better...weird i know!

i fell off on sunday at a sponsored ride! she jumped well but then decided to put her head to the floor and i lost my seat and went off sideways, felt like slow motion i so nearly stayed on! worried she would gallop off across the field to horses in the distance but luckily decided to trot over to her friend we were with, and i found 2 stewards to help me get back on! sore nose and neck but bp padded me and enjoyed the rest of the 2 hour ride.
i think you have to fall off occasionally to remember its worth avoiding but normally not that bad!
havn't heard of 16 times, heard 9 times means your a proper rider, or i think when you loose count of how many times :P

Yey :) you have to have a fall once in a while :)

:( I tell mini she has to have 16 before she is a rider :)

Cruel mummy :(

Well done again x

You're nicer than my mum....She told me I had to fall off 100 times to be a rider  I realised it wasn't true when I wasn't competing at the Olympics by 13 :p
Well done on your fall op, I find a lot of time the expectation of pain from falling exceeds the actual pain felt on impact lol

Completely agree with this! I came off in April at a flat out gallop! Luckily it was a cold day and I had a few good thick layers on so other than a couple of bruises I was fine.

I do tend to hold on a lot tighter now, but at the same time I know it won't really be that bad if I hit the deck :/

I think when I first started riding that I saw falling off as failure. Then when it happened I found out it meant getting broken and pain. It's good to put those two ideas behind me, for now anyhow :) I'm really seeing the logic of learning how to fall off properly and safely. I certainly don't want to test my bounceability any more than I have to at my age .

Not strange at all! I almost want to have a tumble as the last two times I've come (off once 13 years ago and once 2 years ago) I've ended up with broken bones. I want to fall off and get back up and on again and realise it IS possible to not cripple ones self :-) Unfortunately/fortunately I have a very high sense of self preservation and have righted myself from some rather unusual positions! I was also really pleased when I managed to sit a huge spook as I had completely lost confidence in my stickability and was convinced I was going to fall if they did anything. Glad you are okay anyway!
