The first time off India and the first since since 2001 when I fell and broke my wrist (along with my confidence).

I'm pleased to report that I actually found it quite funny and it's given me a boost of confidence! Took India out this morning, she was like a donkey, turned round and he was a bit more on her toes, which is normal. She spooked at a flapping bale bag and turned to the right. I kept going straight on! Landed on my arse in a big muddy puddle! She was such a good girl, just stood there, let me catch her and I remounted and carried on my way home. It really was quite funny!

All this time I've built up in my head that falling off was just awful and it's really held me back. Am so chuffed its happened and it's not bothered me in the slightest. I didn't even cry!

I was covered in mud and had wet knickers though!

Well Done, you have mastered the first lesson in falling off....it's no big deal.

I am (amongst other things) a breakfall / roll instructor, and have hosted a number of classes, showing people how to fall, without hurting themselves. The most important lesson I can teach is that falling off is just part of riding, the same as being bitten or having your toes squished when the great clod stands on you. In other words, it's just one of those things.

The fact that you got wet ...erm, undergarments, and laughed is THE key to not getting hung up on it.

Consider it a beauty treatment, mud is good for the skin, people pay good money to get plastered in the stuff. Glad you were able to laugh about it..
