I've just read a h&h article about someone with section As. Apparently critics have called her a pony patter. Presumably it's a derogatory term, I've not come across it til now. How awful 😞. What's wrong with owning ponies? Humans can be vile to each other.

Well, I am very thankful to 'pony patters'

As a pony mad, but ponyless child, my parents met and befriended an older couple who had land, stables, and a couple of unridden ponies.

I spent many days there, helping groom, turn out, muck out, bring in and prepare feeds / hay nets.

I look back very fondly on those days, and will be forever grateful for being given such a wonderful opportunity to be involved with such lovely ponies.

Reading the article in H&H I’m not sure that anyone has actually called her a pony patter? It’s more about an amateur taking on the pros, producing from the field, and doing very well.

Critics may dismiss science and call me an amateur ‘pony patter’, but the show ring judges didn’t.”

The term Pony Patters is often used in a supercilious manner, much like 'happy hackers' can be sneered at too.
Usually by those who consider themselves to be high up the equine train.
Sometimes comes from the 'all the gear no idea' persons, but more often from those who sneer at anyone who they perceive is not as good as them......
Shame really.

To speak to the actual article, it sounds like such a sensible approach you wonder why it would be worthy of being an article. Rather begs the question!

I know very little about showing welsh ponies, apart from the one I know personally that was bred and produced for that job and can't (happily) do much else for being so sway backed. He can tuck his nose in and flick his toes tho 🙃

It's a farsical (I can't spell that word) term/attitude

For the billionth time: horses don't care if they don't do anything, and you don't have to ride to justify being around horses. It's ok to just be with them, for no other reason than you enjoy it
When I finally got to own my own after best part of 30 years of working with/riding other people's, I suddenly discovered I much preferred just hanging out with him. If I'm ever able to have more ponies in the future they will be strictly for hanging out with only.
