The lane i live in has about 8 "traveller" families down it though they never travel and live in big houses but anyway one lot who own most the ponies down the lane are a complete nightmare when i first moved into the lane their ponies were in a dreadfull state but after a few visits from WHW ;) they started to worm then give them hay ect that was 3 years ago anyway they keep breeding these poor not good for anything ponies and at the moment they have a 13 hand 3 year old stallion in a field next to my house and so far this week they have put 3 different mares in with him who he has covered tonight as i was going to work they were taking a mare out and putting another one in i cant believe them i made a snotty comment but they are thugs so i try not to get into rows with them

Sorry but its their culture , no im not that fond of the pie people either .....

it may be their culture but to be honest i dont give 2 figs about their culture the fact they live in a 1 million pound house but their stables are squalor their fields are are ful of ragwort and plastic haylage wrappers and the fields belong to the local council and when i phoned them they said there is nothing we can do about it they have them on 3 year tenancys the ponies have no passports no one cares if the mares have colts they leave them in the squalid stables from about 4 months old its just a bloody shame that these people can not be educated not to breed (horses that is)

there is nothing they can do they cant go on his land where the stables are with out a warrant and my vet who is the local vet for the RSPCA said she has been to see horses there on numerous occassions but because they all look ok and have water and haylage there is nothing they can do and unfortunatly its not illegal to breed so again what can the WHW do i know he got a warning 3 years ago but since then he has kept under the radar i only know about the stables as i rode past about 2 months ago and could see over his fence and this little colt was standing in his own filth but i live on my own and they know its me who reports them and though i dont keep my horse at home i do have a goat and cats and a dog so i worry for them

If the fields are full of ragwort, and the horses are standing in absolute filth then they are committing Section 9 offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. A vet certainly can give support for a case against this, and cases like this are taken every single day. It may well be that they just get a warning notice to improve the living conditions, which will then be followed up and action taken if it is not adhered to.

I would get back in touch with either WHW or RSPCA, or both.

Sadly travellers are a law unto themselves and they threaten and intimidate anyone who tries to do anything about their appalling care of anmals.Best not antagonise them too much to avoid them taking any kind of revenge.Their philosophy is "an eye for an eye".Be warned.
