following on from my last thread aggess ago about not finding a saddle to fit

well i bought a lovely black country dressage saddle with flair and i thought that is the one so the saddler comes out today to check it and do a template as i need a jump or gp too and he said it doesnt fit and it never will no matter how much you blow it up it wont fit properly :( so i spent £200 on a saddle that im going to have to sell on again

he then did a template and said i highly doubt that even if you spent £4000 on a made to measure it probably still wouldnt fit :( he is looking at a kent and masters high wither but he said that probably wont fit he said i could possibly look at a stock saddle but that might not fit and would be looking at £2000 on it or a really really old side saddle which i would be looking at between £3000 and £4000 even off ebay and they dont come up very often and taz isnt even trained for side saddle

i have had enough of saddles now so im on the hunt for a high wither drop pannel with a huge depth in pannel at the back that wont bridge yeahh good luck :( for god sake :(

rant overrr

Id change my saddler if i were you, as theyre not being very helpful, if a made to measure doesnt fit, its not done right.
Im using a guy just now who builds from the tree up and if none of the standard trees fit he has one made specifically to your horses shape
The saddle is built to your spec, with his help and expertise to put it together and make it work

I use Poppy Webber - www.poppywebber.co.uk she fits saddles for Saddle company (and reflocks others) and they can be fitted to alot of horses not everyones first choice of make but as she is an equine bowen therapist is very good at making sure the saddle is not upsetting the horse even if it is not ideal, She has a few secondhand saddles around the £400 mark and that includes fitting. Goodluck.

I'd change saddler!

My little 15.1hh TBXPolish warmblood is really difficult to fit but with the help of a good saddler who brought 30+ saddles with her we found a saddle!

Ended up with a Kent and masters jump saddle, I can ulta it as she changes shape and if I don't feel confident doing so she will make a special trip down to double check!

:-) get another oppinion and don't give up hope:)

It might be worth having a look at some of the second hand tack auctions.

They sometimes have things that shops dont want.

For example when my old cob was 29 I was going to retire him as he had changed shape to the point that only an expensive made to measure would do. The saddler said he needed a wide banana shaped saddle.

I gave a friend a lift to a local horse sale and was browsing the tack sale, saw a wide banana shaped saddle. No one wanted it, I got it for the reserve of £60. Saddle fitter said it was fine and 6 years on he still goes for the odd potter around in it.

Since then I have seen a few odd shaped saddle going through for next to nothing. Obviously people who have had strange saddles made for horses which they have no use for when the horse goes.
