Over the last four week, my RS has been running a little showjumping course for RS clients to develop jumping skills, working up to doing a small course. Although jumping didn't faze me when I rode as a child, after having a long break I have found that I have less confidence as an adult - even a pole 6 inches off the ground seemed a wee bit scary! I think it is mainly to do with lack of practice at it - just haven't done enough of it to become second-nature. So a short course seemed like a good plan at this stage.
Each class worked on a particular skill - turns between fences, striding on related distances etc, which was then all put together for the course last night. The instructor was one of the newly-qualified staff and I have to say, she was excellent - a real confidence-giver (which for me is really important).
So...I did the course (only 65-70cm, but the biggest I have jumped for a looong time!) and went clear! Which meant I got a nice frilly! And, more importantly, I now know that I can do it
