My two live out 24/7/365 and sometimes I do worry I do the right thing by them but yesterday the feeling of having done the right thing hit me like a brick.

My two were out in a field covered with knee high snow, frolicking in the sunshine, then tucking into a lovely pile of hay. I ensured the were fed and watered and sat back and watched them. Their eyes were bright, coats shiny and they looked a picture of good health. They were warm, content and well mannered and a joy to be around.

Its at times like this I know living out is best for them and me. I know I just could not manage all that keeping a horse living in entails, both mentally and physically.

I am so lucky xxx

I thought the same thing yesterday

My boy is another 24/7/365 hairy beast!

Ours live out all the time and they are happiest that way too. Not only does it seem to be the best thing for them but it saves a lot of hassle and money, dealing with stables and all, though we do have stables which we leave open as a shelter (with some bedding in).

I'm very fortunate that my parents own the land and stables which is right behind their house and 30 mins from where I live and study. They feed the horses for me when I'm not there and my stepdad often does poo-picking! Usually I will be going back about 3 times a week to do chores and start riding our new girl but in this weather it's nice to know I can stay home and that the horses are being cared for.

I hope that when I get Belle going, my mum will also ride her (and my stepdad can have a sit on her too) so that they can get something in return for their hard work!
