has anyone elses horse burped before?

see i didnt realise that horses could until this evening when Rio burped 4 times... they almost sounded human and he was even opening his mouth slightly when he done so.

i didnt think they could burp :o i was rather shocked when he did and then called mum over just to make sure i wasnt dreaming and he did it again and he did it infront of the saddler...

i have never seen him wind suck before but i did give him a load of grass today where as usually he would have hay but it wasnt a huge amount. maybe a 6ft by 2ft area and he was out all day

anyway are horses supposed to burp or is Rio a freak of nature?

twirl bites for any explanations/ experiences :)

I was told it wasn't possible but my vet explained that she was indeed burping a bit (my mare not the vet) when she was recovering from colic.

Just tonight the yard chestnut dimwit was giving me massive snogs in my face and he burped right at me! Cracked me up!

My mare started burping, cue worried phone call to vet as worried about colic.

She said she sound gassy, mare was looking round at tummy, lunged her and after 20minutes she let out this massive fart and was fine.
Build up of gas.

she he wasnt eating much hay like he usually does but hes been stuffing his face all day. he was looking a bit round but he was bright and being his cheeky self (saddler wants to take him home) actually he was in a very good mood compared to normal :) he let out a very large fart before i left and was eating his hay and feed with his usual gusto so im guessing he was just very gassy?

Technically they don't but I was with a clients horse the other day who appearred to burp. Horse was colicking at the time and the vet seemed to think the burping was relieving some of the pressure within her, but was rather alarmed when we first told him about it

My old mare used to do it out hunting - she was a bit stressy. You would feel this rumble starting in her stomach and it would rumble its way up and out of her mouth. Sounded just like a deep human burp.

I had a cribber on loan who used to belch a lot but I guess that is a bit different, I should think it is a good thing if your horse burps when gassy... 'better out than in' as they say!
