Im having a real down day about work.... i work in a well paid office job to afford my horse, otherwise i wouldnt be able to... but i hate it!

I know, know know, KNOW theres little money actually working with them, but its depressing!!

How does everyone else cope/manage?

Have you been there long? I struggled like mad to make ends meet when I had my two and a horse job it was lovely in summer as you got a lovely tan whilst working but winter is not much fun at all.
I struggled to also have any get up and go with my own, as I would be working with everyone else's horses I felt like I neglected mine a little with not wanting to work them, not anything else as they never went without.

Is it because the weather is turning and you want to be out enjoying your horse in it?.
Or you really do hate your job, but please do not leave it until you have secured another one and you really have thought long and hard about it all.

Jobs are so hard to come by these day's.

Chin up though.... go have a yummy hot choccie :)

I am not coping today because just look at the perfect riding weather.

Furthermore i have a bridleway behind my office so I can hear people going past. I am tempted to print out a sign saying NO RIDING HERE :cool:

same here stuck in the office 9 till 5 looking out at the lovely sunny weather i think just knowing its how we afford to keep our horses keeps me coming back :)

i hate it. since we got bought out and i no longer do my original job i hate it even more! an ameoba could do my job.

made worse by the fact the weather is beautiful and i am not riding. :(

Another i hate my office job, person here.
Think it is just that i need a break from it all. Have worked 3 months solid 5 days a week, 9-5. Then still another month to go before i have 11 days booked off for holiday!! Agree this weather doesn't help though, thinking of all the other things i could be doing.

Yeh i think its the fact that its such a lovely day and my horse is sitting in the field doing nothing that annoys me!

But i know full well i would never be able to afford him without my job :(

*sigh*

I'm another office worker, I don't mind my job but I know I need it if I want to be able to afford a Horse (I'm currently looking) someone rode passed the other day I just wanted to go push them off and hop on and go :o

I'm an office worker - being made redundant - Oh how the "Ladys what lunch" lifestyle would suit!!!!

Think of the pennies - And how a nice warm office is actually ok in the Snow and driving gales in the winter.

And how you can leave the office at 5pm, and LEAVE - In the summer even get evening rides - not have to stay all the time because another horse has jumped a gate and ripped its leg open, or looks colicy or because Trudytrixikins needs her horse plaited up for the 50th time!

You could always marry a millionaire! :D

I'm currently hating my job too.

Desperate to leave and do something else but nothing else out there at the moment.

Grrr.

It's made worse by the fact that I'm mega busy and keep ending up doing overtime (unpaid) and having to call my mum to go feed the horses as I won't be leaving on time to get there.

LOL well I'm sure he's happy enough! At least you can ride after work now, I love the late evenings :D

I know what you all mean but I have to say I'd rather work in an office getting paid well to enjoy my weekends, and horse, than work with them and get paid pennies and have to work in all weathers!

Ah yes, I too dream of being one of those "ladies wot lunch"! Still, unless I find that elusive rich man who is happy for me to be a kept woman, or I win the lottery I shall, for the moment out up with my office job. I do hate the summers being cooped up in an office - oh and we don't have windows near us so we can't even see what it's like outside! However, I DO like just working 9 to 5 and finishing on a friday and being able to forget about work for the weekend. We also have flexi time so can finish early if we want and also get 13 extra 'flexi' holidays each year so that totals over 30 holidays compared to many people's 21 so I have to be grateful for that.

I do sometimes toy with the idea of being a teacher as they never seem to bet at work. However, I dislike kids in general so I don't think i would survive long! ha ha

Okay okay, I know be thankful you have a job - I am! But seriously sometimes your office jobs gets very frustrating and annoying!

Plus there is a serious lack of understanding about your horses when something goes wrong and you are upset.... they just dont care :(

I don't have an office job but I'm immensely demotivated at work not to mention struggling to build up the confidence I've lost during my time here. The only thing that keeps me going is seeing the horse I share every week, (I'd love to go more but work, being work, makes it difficult!) However, I'm job hunting every day on the internet in the hope of finding something better and being able to save up enough to get my own neddy :) Sometimes you just need to soldier through the bad bits in life - there HAS to be a silver lining soon!

I work in a cave with no external windows...

I have to ask people who phone in what the weather outside is like. I hate not having a window! But I find that I can cope with it all better if I have ridden before work.

I would quit in a heartbeat if we won the lottery - but til then, I know that a few hours a day in a cave pay for my boys. So it's worth it.

I do 3 jobs. 2 involve working with horses. I work at a stud in the mornings, teach at weekends and now the summer is here evenings as well and freelance book keeping.

There is a way and I am so much happier working this way. I still don't earn a fortune but enough to manage what really matters!!

I work in a cave with no external windows...

Me too!! There could be a hurricane outside and i would have no way of knowing! No windows or natural daylight, and to top it off i cant ride after work until it gets a lot lighter. I commute to London and wont get home till 7.30/8 so until its mid summer i havnt a hope of riding! Im up the yard at 5.15every morning for general chores and i dont really fancy getting up any earlier to ride, although i have once or twice.

Im now obsessed with looking up the weather online to see what my horse is enjoying :D

Here's the ironic part, I have a job with lots of flexibility but can't ride because both my horses are retired. Seriously thinking of getting another, but the extra cost is stopping me (at the moment...)

I currently work in a shop. I would give anything to be back in an office. As mundane as it was it's much preferable to being on my feet all day, being spoken to like crap by both my manager and customers. Earning very little money, and working weekends. I am looking for an office job in my new area to be, I will also be taking a course in reflexology so I can hire a room to do my reiki and reflexology.

If I didn't have a future goal I'd have lamped my boss by now :D But after hearing myself and the others I work with moaning, I knew I had to change things. So I am. :D

Not an office job, but I work part time in Tescos to afford the share pony. I hate it, especially on days like this when I go straight from school to work, it's just exhausting. And the sun doesn't help, I want to be out riding so much! I'm just holding out for the summer when I can ride every day.

But you will be rewarded in Heaven for looking after your dobbins properly even once retired - not like lots of folk who pass them on once they are not up scratch any more. Well done you !!! Maybe you could find a part share to keep costs down?

The weather has been amazing today, pefect riding weather and I'm stuck in doors. Fingers crossed for a lottery win and a summer of riding!

I WANT an office job! Being paid a decent wage (vet nurses get very little espcially with living costs in surrey! I have to live at home with my mum when i'm age 25!) not being "on call" every weekend, even though the likelyhood of actually being called in in minimum, you are always on edge waiting for the call.

I am frustrated with my office job as well - I do a full-time job in part time hrs have 2 kids & a horse - basically I run round like a headless chicken my house is a tip & if I am lucky I sometimes get o ride after picking kids up if daughter doesn't want to - not very often though & to top it all they keep giving me Extra jobs to do at work that always need to be done asap !!!

Like most of you, hate my job- in a bank. Work part time to pay for the horses, but the stress of sales targets is awful especially when I am not a natural seller.Having joined the bank when it was a service industry not a sales one, the changes are very tough.I am on various performance plans as keep missing my targets too. Could eventually be sacked for not selling too.
I don't have the guts to get out, and sadly have to work or the horses would have to go, but would give anything to do a job I enjoy rather than a high pressure sales role:(
The flip side is, of course, the wages are decentish and I would have to work almost full time at somewhere like Tesco to earn what I do in 15 hours a week.... Plus I get regualr holidays and sick pay etc.I do have to work some saturdays though which I dislike especially in summer as my daughter likes us to hack out or compete most weekends then.

well I am just about to start my new job (been jobless for about 9mths) in an office but hours aren't too bad 8-4 and half day friday so when I do get my new horse I shall have lots of time hopefully to spend with it...

Just have to find me a horse 1st ha ha .

Cheer up everyone....soon be winter again and you'll be happy that your in your office when it's howling wind, thrashing rain etc...
I know I will be lol :)

I hated my last office job. I worked in London, so was either commuting or at work from 7.30 - 7.30 every day. The company was horrible to work for, and I didn't care about the work I was doing. I was trapped and miserable, I had no time to be around horses in the week and no money as the commute sucked it all up.

I'd love not to have to work in an office, but nor would I want to work in a yard - the novelty of spending all day mucking out for a pittance in all weathers would quickly wear off!

I've just got a new office job that I hope will be the perfect compromise. Outside London, in a beautiful location, a shorter commute, more reasonable hours - and working for an animal charity, something I really care about and hopefully will really enjoy because of that. And it pays enough that in a year or so I can hopefully buy my own horse again.

That's still my life :(
