.....cos it makes my TB girl soooo very spooky that it sets my youngster off too!! I'm aware of this so decided to bring my 2 girls in a little earlier tonight. I normally don't have a problem, Emma comes in first while our Pheobe waits patiently for me to go back for her. Got Emma out of field no probs but Pheebs decided to have her "spooky head" on her and started galloping round the field while I was bring baby Emma in, sure enough Em responded!!! aarrgghh two galloping round the field, full tilt!! Result.....Pheeb pulling a front shoe and half her foot with it! I HATE THE WIND! lol
Anyone else have the same prob when its really windy?

I hate the wind too :( Holly horse and Fudge dog are no different in it... Including Fudge being depserate for a decent walk... So I am now very windswept and went and he is happy :)
 
I hate wind too. Its blowing a gale here quite a few trees down on the road to the yard tonight mixed in with the snow made for intresting driving! lol Hope it stops soon!!

I hate it to, moved my mare to her new yard today and it was freezing and everything was clattering and banging and along with all the other horses being excitable it wasnt a very good mix but she seems happy :) Had to take the dog for a run last night in the wind and rain.. that was erm interesting :rolleyes:
 
Lol I was just sitting here listening to the wind and enjoying it...but at the same time hoping it fecks off before I get on lol!

Sorry about your mare's shoe and hoof, but had to say what lovely names :)
 
I know the feeling, i can hear the wind getting up outside and i'm due to try a new bit on horsey tomorrow, a horse that is giving me jip as it is! Hopefully it dies down as earlier today was a beautiful day.
 
Me too - I blame all these wind farms that are appearing everywhere, all these giant fans and the indiscriminate breeding of wind really must stop! :D ;)
 
I'm going to be different-love it especially now as on night shift and we can't work when wind gets above 40mph which it just has and due to stay till 3am yehhh! Means can get some kip now and will then be able to spend less time in bed during the day and ride instead!!!
Do hope your mare is ok though.
 
I am quite enjoying it, roof has been on my house and barn for over 400 years, horse snuggled up, sheep in the barn. It is very scary out there up in the Cumbrian hills, but safe here.... Hopefully.
 
My two nags had to stay in their mini barn all day today, it was too dangerous to take them to their fields. Despite a month of snow before Xmas they got out every day then, but today we had gales and blizzards all in one. After a pig arc flew across their fields last year, not taking the risk this time (altho said arc is now angle ironed x 4 into the earths crust!). Tonight it's even worse and their external top doors are shut (they have windows in them so they can still see out and have internal stable doors facing each other).

We are used to hooleys up here (Aberdeenshire) but I could do without the driving snow and sleet and rain on top!

I just keep telling myself that the winter has to blow itself out like a fire....this time of year is always the worst!
 
Isnt this wind something to do with the tail end of the cyclone in Australia? (so I was told), was strong here last night all the windows & doors were creaking away!
 
Blowing a gale here today, hate it! Spent all this morning bricking it as I had a lesson planned, but it was great (despite being practically blown off!!)! Hope it gives up soon, it is tiring battling against it at the yard, and so noisy too!
 
I hate it too - fetching my 2 boys in last night, to excercise and feed. Spooked by the wind already, pony in next field decides to tank off just as we get level, resulting in my 14.2hh damn near dragging off my feet, so off he goes, managed to hang on to the other one, who was leaping around like a lipizanner stallion :rolleyes: finally caught the other one was was merilly trotting up the track when he spotted a pile of hay.

Today i have 2 very aching sore shoulders :(

Yes getting them in one at a time would be safer, but they won't stay out on their own an the field is nearly 1/2 a mile from the yard :o

Its more directly related to the weather North America gets about a fortnight before us from observation. The big snow was also preceded a fortnight before by huge snowfalls there. Its worth keeping an eye on their forecast and then putting a note in the diary!
 
eek.... so watching the US we will have more snow then... we seemed to get away lightly considering the battering they got just after the new year.

I hates the wind too, and am ashamed to say have avoided working in it, as mare gets a spooky, silly head on, especially if we are trying to work in the school after dark.
 
My mare doesnt seem to mind it, but then again i wouldnt have risked riding in our gale force winds first thing thismorning! the yard was a tip when i arrived, wheelbarrows, bins, forks, buckets and plastic chairs (god knows where they came from) all over the place :eek:

I had to force my way through the yard gate as the wind was blowing it and me backwards lol - it was like slow motion trying to reach my horse down the other end of the yard, battling the winds!

If only i had my red shoes and blue dress on, i could have re inacted The Wizard of Oz!!! and i dont know why i bothered to brush my hair before leaving the house!!!!! :D
 
Got a lesson tonight. Not looking forward to it! First lesson since November as the last one got snowed off.

Mine lives out, feel sorry for him in the wind as there is no let up, we do have some woodland that provides great natural shelter but it all flaps about so much in this wind they won't go anywhere near it! Probably just as well as I'd worry about them getting squashed by a tree.

I think its meant to be windy all weekend. :confused:
 
wind here today is unbelievable - having to hold the landy on the road :eek:

I also picked the wrong day to be psyched up enough to clear out my deep litter bed, although the wind behind me and the barrow did help. Putting fresh straw and shavings plus haylage in was a joke, catching the horses was wild, and at the end of it my feet were soaked cos my mudruckers have split :mad:

I must admit, I've quite enjoyed myself today :D
 
mine were loopy today 2 living out were running around having a great time, the 2 that come in were on their toes but quite settled once they were in....i hate the wind i hope it dies down by tomorrow i'm meant to have a lesson but my horse is a nightmare in the wind!
 
Mine are pretty used it to it living on a windy hill, but today just lost the plot! Fields have coped really well this winter......until today, so spent an hour treading in skid marks.
The weird thing is that when we rode later in the day they were as good as gold, but probably had worn themselves out hooning around their fields!!

For all with plans this weekend, some of us have heavy rain to go with it too - I am meant to be hunting tomorrow and having a jumping lesson on Sunday, ROll ON SPRING!!!!
 
Mine has had a right day in the field, ripped the webbing strap off his rug and pulled a shoe - prob at the same time.
No hunting tomorrow for us then :( :(
