Well, almost.... Henry and I are just back from our first shoot!

Sorry no pics, this was not exactly planned and I didn't have my camera with me:D

So, this morning I drove up to my parents' house in Leicestershire, and when we arrived I took Henry to Bosworth Battlefield for a walk. We saw this group walking towards the path towards us, I thought they were ramblers so put Henry on the lead... but it turned out they were a load of beaters and guns about to start a drive. Got chatting to a nice man (Mike) with a cocker called Charlie, and he asked if I'd like to tag along for the last couple of drives! So Henry and I have been beating this afternoon!

Hen was quite good, he did whine a bit, but just through excitement. I kept him on the lead, and we ended up stood quite close to a gun, but he was ok. At the end of the last drive I let him off, he was off in a flash to meet all the other dogs:rolleyes: and thoroughly investigated the pheasants (and tried quite hard to pinch a squirrel someone had shot:eek::mad::rolleyes:). In fact he ended up in the game wagon.... I am taking this as a sign he wants to go again:D He liked it so much that as we walked away and I let him go, he turned round and tried to get into the game wagon again - the shame:o But someone caught him and so all was well!

We can't have been too much of a hindrance as we were invited along again - although sadly they shoot during the week and are 100-odd miles away from me, or I would definitely go. Everyone was really welcoming and even though Hen was not on his best behaviour no one seemed to mind;)

So I am just sitting while my dog walking coat goes around in the wash - it looked a bit mucky after all that climbing through the woods:D All that worry about being properly dressed, and I end up wandering around in a bright green puffa jacket:o:p:D

I don't suppose they will see this, but a big thank you to Mike, David the shoot owner (who looked a bit non-plussed to have gained a beater halfway through the day, but didn't seem to mind!) and all the other lovely people who I spoke to:D

Can't stop grinning:D

Yey well done Henry!!

At least you were with him and he was under some sort of control :D Max joined the shoot here today - without me!! I was getting horses in for the farrier when I get a call from YO to say Max had joined the shoot in the bottom field :rolleyes: it turns out he had taken a shine to one of the spangles......:D:D

Well he was under control until I let go of the lead:o He was pulling like a train, I have a raw patch on my finger from it:mad:

Norty, norty Max-i-moose, leave the laydees in peace:eek::p:D:D:D

What a small world!!

I am from Mkt Bosworth so the Battlefield is one of our most common haunts:D We are just trying to work out whose shoot it would be - I'm racking my brains to think of David and Mike - I'm sure I'd know them:D

Well done Henry - next time you are in the area on a Saturday, you must join me and Purdey beating just near Bosworth park:D

And remember your camera next time:rolleyes:

Haha how amusing...only you hey! :D At least you had no time for nerves! Fantastic you managed to get out this side of xmas after all! Well done you and Henry :D

Glad to hear you had a great day! Having asked on here last week re how I would go about joining a shoot I have now spoken with a local gamekeeper and we are going on our first shoot on 4th Dec as an official picker upper! Am V nervous :D

Aw what a chance meeting! Fab though as Vizzy says no sleepless night beforehand :p Good boy Henry - see he's a natural!

FattyBoomBoom that's brilliant - good luck! :)

I don't know how I get into these situations:rolleyes::D

Nickijem, I will take you up on that, although at the moment I am still very much at the 'clinging on to the lead like grim death' stage:D

FBB - good luck!

That's ok - so are me and Purdey! We are going beating tomorrow and I will be dragged round on the end of the lead for most of the day no doubt. Maybe by the afternoon, she will have settled down enough to go off the lead for a short while - fingers crossed:D
