Hi again every1

I posted in here recently about my RR who is not acting herself. The vet is due out this weekend.

She is 11 years old and never had any health problems before. When she was about a year old we noticed that her hair had thinned on the inside of her back legs / belly and the skin had gone darker. The vet said it was nothing harmfull and not to worry.

About 2 or 3 years ago she got a cyst like lump on top of her head. You can move it and put pressure on it and she shows no sign of discomfort at all, it has never changed in size.

The hair on her elbows started to thin (with darker skin too) in the last 3 weeks, one more than the other. We put this down to her age. But one elbow seems to have a large lump under the thicker dark skin that has bled very slightly and looked quite sore on occasion (but she will let you prod at it - we aren't sure whether it is not painful or she is too kind natured to growl or show pain). Today i was trying to feel how big is was and white pus came out of it, but it wasn't all out of one hole. It looked more like it was coming out of pores in the skin :s

She has also developed a small lump on her back leg recently and the hair has come off it. It is the same dark skin. She has patches on her belly where hair is coming off.

She is eating and drinking and going to the loo as usual.

Before i am attacked for not taking her to the vets before now i would like to tell you about the dog. She is old for a dog of her breed, we live in a secluded house and she is a big baby around immediate family. She was bought to be a guard dog but my mother spoilt her rotten and she ended up becoming a spoilt house dog who is scared of the rain. When family she has known for years come to visit she will still bark and be nervous of them, she has to get used to them in her own time. She is a very nervous dog (more so now she is older) and doesnt react well to new places or people. When she is taken to the vets she must be muzzled (she has never bitten or even come close to it but she gets herself in such a state when she is travelled that we couldnt risk some1 being hurt) She will bark at any1 and anything she sees untill she is so exhausted she will cower behind you. Basically it is far far too stressfull for her to be taken there because some hair is falling out. So the vet is out at the weekend, that way he can sit down and she can say hello to him in her own time.

We are really baffled by all of this, in the last month or so she seems to be falling apart

wheras my 13 year old border terrier has found a new lease of life. I have done alot of reading on RRs and know they have alot of hereditory problems and was jst hoping some1 on here could shed some light on this?

She is a very much loved part of the family and we are all worried sick about her behaviour and now these lumps.

Thanks for reading

They sound very strange. My lady is 10 and she is also covered in lumps but I have had them checked and they are fatty lumps. She looks a bit like an elephant dog!!
However, she doesn't have hairloss nor do they secrete anything.
Hopefully your vet will be able to shed some light on her problems. Let us know how she goes on. Was thin king about her just the other day.

Thanks for the reply, The lump on her head has never lost any hair or secreted anything. Its just the one on her elbow that is doing it really.

She has actually perked up alot today, she spent a good 25 mins chasing a wasp around the house earlier.

It is scary to read that their life expectancy is so low when you have an older one youself!

My OH's parents have a 13 yr old ridgy who is still going strong he is slow and covered in fatty lumps and skin tags and sometimes doesn't fancy a walk but he is still happy so chin up they can live longer than the books tell you!

Their other old dog (who passed away last year aged 14) a Lab had very hard elephant skin on his elbows which would get sore sometimes just from the way he laid. Good luck with the vet!

Everything crossed for you. Your girly sounds a lot like mine although possibly a bit worse on the nervous scale.
