After losing Sunbeam, am now losing my old cob Cadog who is 32, he has arthritis and has been lame for the last few weeks, vet came again today and said it has got much worse (which I knew anyway) since the cold and wet has come, he is on two bute a day the last week and it hasn't made a difference plus he struggles to get up when lying down, so tomorrow Cadog is being PTS , the vet says he can't really have anymore bute as it will kill him anyway cos he has Cushings as well plus at being only 14.1 two bute is a hell of a lot, just feel so down he is a lovely old boy and tries to do more than he should,

(((hugs)))

You should be so proud of yourself for looking after your horse and making the kindest decision for him. Most people get rid of their horses as they get older, your horse is very lucky to have you love him.HUGS

Well done for making such a brave decision. He has reached a grand old age and I am sure will be grateful for the care that you have given him

My heart goes out to you, to lose two so close together is awful. But once again you are absolutely doing the right thing for Cadog. He and Sunbeam obviously couldn't have asked for a more caring owner. Sendign you loads of hugs for tomorrow. (())

I am so sorrybut sometimes you really have no choice but to follow thevet's advice.
He's a good age, if he's still lame on two bute then he's very lame without it, and the time has come to let him go peacefully.
Keep telling yourself he will never feel pain again and do the right thing, I know it's tough but if you love them, you have to do it.
He sounds to have had a very happy life with you, and I know you will miss him.

what a brave and loving decision you have made..... you know you are doing the right thing and he will thank you for it.... big (((HUGS))) coming your way

Hi Zigzag
My heart goes out to you and I type this in floods of tears as it is so close to my heart <<<<<<<<<<hugs>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Oh no hun, Im so sorry, and so soon after Sunbeam. Life is unfair at times. You showed great strength with Sunbeam and Im praying that you will have the same strength for Cadog when he needs you to help him. My healing vibes are on their way to you. Hx

Poor you - losing 2 horses so close together. You are making the right decision for the horse's sake. 32 is a grand old age. Hugs coming your way.

Oh no, so sorry for your very sad news. My thoughts will be with you and Cadog tomorrow. Take care, I can only imagine how devastated you must be feeling.

I am so sorry, but you know you are doing the right and the most loving thing for Cadog. I am sure he has had a wonderful and long life with you.

So sorry to read your news, we had to make the same decision for Nell, who was 33 and had been with us for 23 years, at the end of October, so my heart goes out to you. But you kept her to the end and got her to a good age, we can do no more for them.

Oh hunny! I echo everything that Carthorse and others have said. It really is the hardest decision to make, but the kindest. He's been a lucky, lucky horse to have you! So sorry that this follows so closely to you losing Sunbeam!! Hugs and strong vibes on their way to you!!

I am very sorry to hear about Cadog and after losing Sunbeam so very recently I can understand why you are feeling so low and dejected.

My thoughts are with you again at this awful time x
Like others have said though it is the right thing to do and I am very proud to read that like Sunbeam your other horse has had a long and happy life with you. Most horses can only dream of having an owner as caring as you so for that please feel very proud of what you have achieved and done for your horses.
32 is a very good age and as other people have rightly pointed out there are other people who would have sold their horses on once they reached a certain age or were not fit for a purpose.
I will be thinking of you tomorrow and once again I send big hugs (( )) ahead of tomorrow x

Sorry to hear about this and on top of having just lost Sunbeam too. No matter how old they are, we always hope for longer with them, but as he is suffering you are doing the right thing for him.
