Ok firstly I apologise to everyone as this is totaly non horsey and very long but just had to tell someone as its really scared me.
The other night I was sat on my computer looking through the posts on here when I heard a bit of a racket in my bathroom (I live in a ground floor flat), as I went to get up this gigantic cat (when I say gigantic it was just a little bit smaller then my dog which is a lab) came running in through my kitchen and went to attack me!!
The dog who was sleeping next to the comp jump up and went for the cat but the cat attacked my dog and got her to the floor, when she got up she legged it in to my bedroom, I legged it after her closing my little boys door as i flew past.
Woke my OH up hystically as the cat was tring to jump through a closed kitchen window, by the time my OH had got dressed and grabbed a few wepons (a belt and curtain pole lol) the cat was back in the bathroom trying to get back out through the open window in which it finally suceeded.
I was left with lots of broken crockery, a cracked kitchen window, a ripped bathroom blind and a dog with a sore nose bless her. The past couple of nights I've been making sure all windows and doors are closed.
I've got no idea what type of cat it was it was just very large and grey with 2 black strips down either side of its spine and tufty bits on it's ears and a very thin and narrow face.

WTF!

Sounds like a wild cat of some sort! Are any native to where you live? If not I would assume a private party is keeping exotic animlas and one must have escaped. I would hope you contacted the police!

As far as I know we dont have any native wild cats in England I just thought it was totally random how it jumped in through my bathroom window.
I dont even live in a rural area I live on housing estate!!!!!

Sounds like youve just had a close encounter with a lynx! It was probably more frightened than you, not a nice experience though. I would contact the police. Mairi.

We do have large cats living in England, that should'nt be here. It is well documented, about 20 years ago the law changed and stopped domestic large cat owners from keeping the cats, or they had to have an expensive licence, anyway something along those lines.

As a result, people simply let them go. I had an outdoor experience many years ago, seeing a large black cat and my friend who's yard is was managed to get 3 photo's.

I would consider that the cat was ferral to behave in this manner, as for what breed it was - who knows. The scary thing is, how did it get in?

It got in through my bathroom window which was open.
It looked a bit like the picture but not as fluffy and a bit darker grey I cant remember if it had a tail I didnt stick around that long lol

Crikey!! That is scary!!

Have you reported it to anyone?

Glad canine Puppy can't read this thread, she is easily upset by big scary pussycats

Oh my god how terrifying! I think it most probably is some sort of wild cat, I nearly ran over a huge black cat that was about the size of a lab a couple of years ago, just appeared out of some bushes. Definitely report it!

Sounds like a Main Coon to me, a very large, expensive domestic breed. My cousin had one and it was massive. Lovely though!

WOW, that must have been terrifying. How exciting. There are lots of websites out there for people that have seen these 'big cats' and try and track them and gather evidence. Maybe get in touch with them. A friend of mine swore she was a large black puma last summer. She reported it to the police and they said there had been a few sightings.

Let us know if you find out what it was.....

I would think it was a lynx too.We have had sightings in my area.A Puma is black so I doubt it was one of those.Again we have had sightings of one around here.I am right in the middle of the countryside where there are alot of good hiding places and a plentiful food supply.A few sheep were killed last year in mysterious circumstances and the farmer maintains to this day it was a puma that did it.Several of the local gun club claim to have seen both puma and lynx in the area.I would think that the cat probably was someones pet and had either escaped or was hungry which is why it came in to your house in the first place, but you really should report it.

I'm in Surrey and saw something similar in the woods behind my house last year. I spoke to the local police officer who said there had been loads of sightings reported.
I'm pleased I wasn't as close as you though!

Eeek, I love cats...but that sounds so scary!!

I'd just call your local police station to report it. I'd imagine if it had escaped the owner is going to be wanting it back!

My god who would want to keep a Lynx and if one got out should'nt it be on the local news or radio or something because the way it attacked my dog it could of easily killed someones cat.
By the way rang the local police and they said they have'nt had anyone report any exotic/wild animal missing but they have had a few sightings reported over the last couple of weeks.

We have a few wild cats (lynx, puma's) up here in Scotland, I guess England has a few too. Puma's are black though and I think you'd know if it was one of those!

Or it could possibly have been an escaped (or illegally released) exotic cat of some kind. Bloody scary when it gets into houses though!! Wonder what it was.
