My 4 yr old has been trying the outdoor life (ie. living out 24/7) for the last two days.

Tonight she admitted defeat

Stood in the corner by the gate tucked up and shivering in the drizzle

neighing sorrowfully every time she saw someone (farmer, neighbour - it didn't matter - she just wanted us all to know she was miserable

)

Now, bearing in mind she had a rug on and has been fed morning and night I didn't think she was that hard done by!

Anyhoo, did stables and left doors open whilst I went to get hay. Came back to find her stood in her stable

having jumped the fence to bring herself in......

Some horses just aren't meant to live out........

My mare brings herself in if the humans are too stupid to realise that she is cold/hungrey/tired/fed up. Horses will be going out for the summer soon so I am wondering how she is going to cope?!!

If the handbook turns up please can you send my cob a copy?

Ancient arab (well, 34 is quite old I think) is now out 24/7 - 8 year old cob?? Demands to be in or else!

mine used to jump out the field and let himself in. It caused much confusion when you can't locate your horse, and then find him tucked up in bed, stable door wide open. Mind you, if you were 4 fields away, and shouted him to come to the gate, he'd bomb down the field, jumping all the fences, whinnying at top volume, you know, in case you "forgot" him :-)
Whinnying was also a favourite trick for food. I'd feed him, and leave. Next person comes along, he whinnies in a pathetic way, person thinks he's not been fed, gets 2nd feed. I had to put a note up saying "I'm noisy, not hungry" after 4 feeds one morning

Mine is the same! I leave everything open and He will be stood there in his stable munching hay!
He will go out go frantic running about bronking and farting and then have a roll (can't forget that!) and then go and stand by the gate wanting to come in...

Don't we just love 'em
