I took the plunge and went on a cobby adventure on Sunday.

I went to the Highclere sponsored ride on my friend's 4 year old cob Champ. He was only backed in December so is VERY green.

What a star!!!!!!!!!! :D He was superb all day and we did all the little jumps (about 30!!) and did two bigger jumps including some sharks teeth that were about 2'6. He was VERY strong at the beginning but was much better when i made him go in front and soon settled. It's official......I'm converted :D It was strange not being on Zoom, my rasher of bacon, but about half way round I totally clicked with him.

We had a couple of oopsies moments tho......;) The first was at the second jump on the course. It was a tiny log with a little rail behind. He caught sight of the rail at the last moment and spooked. He's very honest though so still took off. Of course the photographer was at this fence!!!!!!!:

HAHAHAHA! Photo FAIL! It felt even worse than it looked as he practically bucked as he went over it and I was so desperate not to touch his mouth I almost fell off......but didn't!

The second photo fence later wasn't much better since by this time we'd been jumping bigger and he was a bit bored of the little ones.

I wish they'd caught us on one of our more impressive jumps but hey-ho. I also almost came acropper when there was a metallic strip on the floor on the motorway bridge that he simply COULDN'T walk over. We ended up leaping it which was a bit scary.

What a star.....he's gonna be amazing!

Thanks for reading.

Great pictures!:D He looks brilliant fun.
I have a little hairy monster cob too, who took off with me round our field, repeatedly:rolleyes:, on friday night. I reckon she is steam-train x giraffe, rather than just hairy-heinz x bog-pony.

He looks a lovely chap and great fun.

Having converted from TBs and WBs to gypsy cobs, I never looked back and can honestly say I have far more fun on Stinky than any horse apart from maybe my TB Breeze, but I was 20 years younger then.

Mine is never a plod, but safe and fun that nearly anyone can get on and enjoy and has been since the age of four.

He is really going to be a star when he's all growed-up :D I also didn't suffer any John Wayne-style walking since he is young and gangly and hasn't really filled out yet.

He's a beautiful mover so hopefully I'll get to do a bit of local dressage on him next year.
