That's the second Boston terrier in a week to be dropped off at our local shelter

And they had a third up for adoption last month. I don't know how you Staffie and Greyhound people must feel. It seems so particularly sad when your "chosen" breed starts popping up in rescue shelters.

He looks a charming boy. Such a shame. There will always be unwanted animals in this world, all we can do is look after our own as best we can and when possible, take on rescues.

i get more angry when its the working dogs. everybody wants a cocker or a springer with amazing feild trialling bloodlines, fab pedigree, but never think 'ah, this dog would be spending 90% daylight hours working its legs off-so it may need more than one walk a day'.

As a staffie fan ... heartbreaking. Particularly when I see the poundie lists with "WILL BE PTS ON XX DAY" when their only "crime" is to be a staffie. And most of the dogs are really young..

where do you find out what is in a pound? Thought only rescues could take dogs straight from pounds

I think, to a much lesser degree, that's what's happening with Boston terriers. They don't necessarily need walking ten miles every day, but they are bouncing off the walls with energy and must get a good half hour of fetch every day (they're tennis ball loopy) plus running around time with other dogs. I'm sure people living in the city think that, because they're small, they're on a par with chihuhuas and pugs, but they're most definitely not.

I would never dream of getting a working spaniel, even if I lived outside the city, and I'm a serious runner.
