Just that really :) or rather five or six of them. Had a slightly hairy moment when galloping across a field looking at my hands as I tried to untangle myself from hunting whip that I was pretty much sitting on to looking up and realising I was about 5 strides out from another hedge and I better get sorted! Needless to say I spend two more fields tangled up in the whip lol. Felt fab! Not that anyone prob cares (sure a hedge is pretty standard for most!) but we don't have that many of them where we are so I've never had the chance to jump them before. Our master was quite shocked when I told him, and there was a very embarrassing moment when he pointed out me about to 'jump' my first hedge (and it was one of the small ones) to the field and I had a bloody stop!! Cue feeling very embarrassed that the whole field knew about it!!! But I made up for it over the big stuff thankfully!!! Sorry for ramble just felt the need to announce it! There is even a pic of me landing after one and u can see the cheesy grin on my face. God I love hunting :)

I can still remember jumping my first hedge. I was about 18. I was riding Mum's big grey hunter and he ran away with me a bit! We flew over it- great feeling once I'd got over the shock!

it's such a fabulous feeling isn't it!?

It's only in the last couple of seasons that I've had opportunity and the horse to do it (since leaving ponies at least!). Ron is so brave with them that it's just the most brilliant thing.

Go for it! Honestly the best feeling when you land! And stay near the front if you want a lead, I made the mistake of getting in the middle of the field at the start, deff where all the carnage happens!!!

Sounds fab!!
I hope one day my cob will take me over a hedge.
Trying hardest to get out one day this winter!
Never been hunting and neitjer has the cob. Went cubbing on my old tb that was fun!

Good advice, thank you! The horse I'm riding this season arrived on Wednesday, he's about 18hh so sure a hedge looks like a trotting pole to him. Only 6 though so still could be interesting!

Congrats! I've never jumped anything getting on for close to a hedge, so can only attempt to imagine the buzz you must have felt! I'm sure it can be quite addictive. Start as you mean to go on! :D

I went out for the 2nd time in my boy on Sunday. Jumped our first couple of decent hedges and he absolutely flew! Got some great photos. Unfortunately one of later hedges had a slight drop and ditch on landing side, which we didn't quite clear. Horse and rider fall. Horse fine. Me sore ankle (thank you to everyone who stopped to help!). Got back on and carried on. Ankle a little sore. A&E yesterday and ankle is broken in 2 places so now in plaster cast! What a plonker!

but yeah its fab the first time....the euphoria never goes away its the same over every hedge..breathtaking
