I just boycotted Lush

I just spent a grim afternoon xmas shopping. I decided to choose some gifts from Lush as I had been requested to do. I had briefly read that they were selling anti-hunting something-or-others a while ago and so I checked carefully that they were no longer on sale. I carefully chose my gifts and placed them on the counter to pay. Imagine my disgust when behind the counter I noticed a card with a fox on it, reading 'Thank you for your donations, from the hunt saboteurs'.
I asked the assistant to show me the card and I said, 'that's terrible, I cannot shop here any more.' and I walked out of the shop.
What is the point of a high street shop funding hunt saboteurs in some mis-guided notion that they are 'supporting' animal rights, and alienating a large group of people in the process? I wish people would get their facts straight! Fair enough support an animal rights CHARITY not a bunch of .... well you know what we all think!

I shouldn't have gone in there I know.
 
It's only the profits from one product ('The fabulous Mrs Fox' bubble bath bar) that are going to hunt sabs so people still have a choice. They also do a moisturiser called 'charity pot' where proceeds are donated to various named charities. Likewise if you don't want to support those charities then don't buy that product. I don't support battery eggs but it doesn't stop me shopping in supermarkets that stock them - I just buy the free range ones instead.

I wonder what the shop assistant thought to that? You reckon she mentioned to management that people really are refusing to shop in lush due to their idiotic support of sabs?

I'm boycotting Lush for life now, it doesn't matter of they stop giving money to the sabs, they have made the sab loving bed and can now lie in it, I have to say I hope the chain goes under.
 
looks like they have toned down the mrs fox campain. especially if it is reduced to a card behind the till. Everything has now been removed from the website.

Did the pressure placed on them in the right areas byHHO'ers do this? It would be nice to think so, but I remain cynical.
 
They've toned down everything because they are being investigated by advertising standards!

I complained about some of their "facts" and got a letter from ASA saying they had a lot of complaints and are investigated numerous points.

They can support who they like but when they start spouting lies as fact, then well, they deserve everything they get.

Its a nightmare the hunting issue...

But i know for a fact that a hunt local to me, catches foxes and transports them to another hunt many miles away..... Imagine how distressfull this is for the poor wild creature.

Im afraid i can never support hunting fully, when i know antics like this go on, but the bottom line is everyone wants a nice ride in the countryside....

I really don't know what to think, i wish it really WAS about pest control.

Good on you for complaining! I've never really shopped in Lush but what concerns me is that the tactics they seemed to be using are questionable, well they must be if the ASA have launched an investigation!
 
I wouldn't be surprised if the ASA are investigating Lush. Considering 'fox' hunting is illegal in the UK, doesn't that make the hunt sabs nothing more than vigilantes? It's the job of the Police to ensure that laws are not broken, not members of the public.
I work hard to earn my money, and I like to be selective about which places I spend it. I choose not to buy certain products where profits are used for other illegitimate or immoral purposes. I don't mind if a retailer chooses to give that money to a legitimate charity, however hunt saboteurs are not. They are lawbreakers themselves. So the ASA rightly should be investigating a company that openly funds criminal activity. All very foolish and short-sighted of Lush!
 
Unfortunately yes i do.... Personally know people who have seen it happen....

Im not anti, but this isnt right, and i find it hard to support when i here of things like this happening.
 
To be honest, I don't see why they cannot support whoever they choose. I used to buy Lush, I used to be a Mystery Shopper for them for a few years as well. I stopped buying their products after realising they support Plane Stupid who I don't agree with. I'm not about to bitch about it though. The director is very opinionated, he succeeds in getting Lush's name out there in the public through supporting things like this. Quite a good marketing ploy if you ask me!!! I imagine a lot of pro-hunters refuse to shop there, but I also imagine a lot of anti's choose to do so! I'm an anti by the way but I don't know enough about the HSA to know if they are a good choice, however I am glad that Lush are trying to show they are anti.
 
I didn't know anything about this. I been off line for a while so although its old news for some its not for me.

I will bear it in mind if I shop there
