I started a new job last week, and I manage a very small team (3.5 people!) who all seem very nice. Today I had to go to one of our other offices with one of my team, and we got chatting about dogs (since my car is...ummm...rather doggy and smelly

)

He said he had 4 dogs. He said that he bred labradoodles...but the market was drying up, and he had to give away 3 of his last litter just before Christmas as he couldnt sell them.

Then he said he had another TEN dogs up in Scotland (where he used to live) which are with a friend - the friend "isnt a puppy farmer" but has FIFTY breeding bitches plus his ten dogs.

He said that this weekend he was going to Scotland to collect some puppies and deliver them... I said it was a long way to go, and he said 'yes, but it is worth it when you have £4-£5k of dogs to collect. I just do it to earn some extra income'.

I didnt know whether to

............. I have to work with this man, I have to manage him fairly and properly, he seems very nice in every other way...... but he is one of the people I hate most in the world, a puppy farmer

Sorry, this is a pointless post because there is nothing anyone can say, but I just feel so gob smacked about it
frown.gif

Pointless reply too, but don't blame you for being gobsmacked. What breeds are the pups he is collecting? You will have to just hope that the market reduces for them as well and they will be discouraged from breeding them. Interesting he doesn't consider someone with 50 bitches a puppy farmer, but suppose there are some big show kennels who could have large numbers of bitches.
It seems a shame that even with all the publicity people are still buying puppies without seeing the parents and are happy to just have them delivered
frown.gif

Not pointless at all.......it's f!cking sickening, imagine hearing this, and being on the other side, i.e the rescue that will take these puppies on board in 6-12 months....and him, well he will be sitting pretty, with a wad in his pocket like the money grabbing scum he is......as im damn sure, he cannot offer to take them back at any stage...........You have to either ignore him, educate him, or tell him to shut the f!ck up, beacuase you don't agree/or want to hear of his BACK STREET BREEDING to the extreme, and ask if he is registered with the TAX man
smirk.gif
, and try and find out where they are running their tax free breeding scheme
smirk.gif

LMAO Cala I never thought of the tax man
grin.gif
Well he had better behave himself at work thats for sure
tongue.gif

TBH I wanted to rant and scream at him, all the stuff you have said about rescues having to pick up the pieces from idiots like him, but I cant

I just changed the subject, and I will make damn sure I never talk to him about dogs again.

But at the same time I feel like I am wimping out
frown.gif

Well, a puppy farm near me, was understandably......"boiling with rage"....when the tax man found him, and then the rates department from the local council, paid him a visit......not sure how he was found out
smirk.gif
*coughs*, I must take my benyln
tongue.gif

You cannot voice your true opinion, *without lamping him* because in your position...u simply cannot, but u could maybe ask, where the puppies are, as your friend lives in Scotland, and is interested....in *well* whatever breed he is selling
smirk.gif
.....there is always a way to make your feeling felt, it does not always have to be to the persons face
smirk.gif

Ooooh you sneaky person Cala
tongue.gif
Right, the wheels will be put into motion...maybe not overnight, but vengance will be mine over this particular puppy farming b*stard

Can you steal me a labradoodle puppy before you report him please
tongue.gif
I knew someone who got a puppy from a puppy farm - the poor little thing was dead within two months from heart failure
mad.gif
They were allowed to take him home when he was 6 weeks old

Oooh how hard for you. I'd bide my time and build up a really good picture of what the operation's like and what he does with 4 -5k worth of pups at this end and then shop the b***tard when you've got enough to hang him with. And practice your really sympathetic face for when he comes whining to you at work about the nasty tax man catching up
smirk.gif
Oh, and I'd stick Exlax in his tea too just for some instant gratification

We have been having problems with idiots/not knowing better people buying mostly Chihuahua-, Pug- and Miniature Pinscher-pups, sometimes claimed to be purebred, sometimes not, from Hungary and a few other countries. Sometimes they're transported all taped up, to not crawl around or yelp. That's at least one good thing that has came with people having less money to spend, there's less puppy sales at ferry berths.

Less times where people go to meet the seller at the ferry berth, gets their puppy and more than once, the puppy dies about a week later or a few weeks later. One of those Chihuahua-pups could cost between 15 000 to 20 000 Swedish crowns, might add that Jonna's puppy that I sold cost 9 000 crowns, SKK reg, vet checked, de-wormed, got his first vacc, SKK Welcome puppy info-DVD, Info folder written by me 5 pages or so, small rug, some gnaw bones, a small bag of the food he was used to ...
But hey, about a year or so ago there was an article is my local morning-paper about a woman who bought a ferry berth Chihuahua-pup and lost it two weeks later after very expensive treatment at a vet clinic, guess what she did? Bought another Chihuahua-pup a few months later at another ferry berth and said she kept her fingers crossed that this one would be healthy...

As Cala said, hit them the only place it hurts Acolyte, their wallet.

Fifty brood-bitches but not a puppy farm... If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it could be a dragon doing a duck impersonation. You may not always want to let dragons into a pond, even if they can impersonate a duck.

I would be making some discrete enquiries too, on behalf of my "very interested friend in Scotland" of course
smirk.gif
Perhaps, next week you could ask how it went delivering the pups, just to start the conversation up again, and then you can steer it in the direction of where the money grabbing git is operating from

My grandmother wanted a new Border Terrier, so rang up an ad in local paper, he sounded a bit off (he had been moaning about needing to sell the pups quick as they were costing too much in food
crazy.gif
) so she decided to just turn up unannounced...

12.30 in the afternoon, man and wife still in bed asleep
crazy.gif
when they let her in the pups were crying with hunger, there were about 5 different litters of all different breeds.
frown.gif
All stinky, cramped and clearly underfed
mad.gif

She felt so sorry for the wee pup (there was only one female BT left) and she really wanted to take it there and then but couldnt justify the money he was charging for a wee scrap of a thing that looked likely to die
frown.gif

She reported them to the USPCA but havent heard any response....
