other than being a poor doing tb, is there any reasons why my boy could be quickly losing weight? he is due his teeth done, but ive never saw him lose weight this quick before. he always loses condition when he comes in for winter, but he looks skinnier than he did even just a week ago..

ive started feeding alfa oil, hoping this will help him. hes also on fibre cubes and ready mash extra, along with linseed and mint.

Go out and get him some haemavite b plus, can't reccomend it highly enough. No need for fibre cubes and Alfa oil, ditch the cubes for something more substantial. A coditioning feed, I like veteran vitality by a&p. Weight tape every few days to keep regular check on progress. Worm with pancur 5 day, it's a low does so won't harm the gut as much as on hefty one. Give as much haylage As he can eat both In the stable an in field, add a 3rd feed, 3 smaller feeds are far better than one.

How old is he? Cushings can affect horses from 15 up, sometimes younger, and one of the symptoms is weight loss. Silly question but is he rugged properly? Too hot can be as bad as too cold. Not thin enough for chronic grass sickness is he? Or some other underlying illness? I'd get his teeth done then contact one of the reputable horse feed manufacturer's feed helplines. Safer than getting opinions on here because people will be basing their advice on their own horses/experience and you will need more objectivity. If he still isn't putting on weight you might need bloods taken by the vets to check for other issues.

never heard of that before! what is it?

his teeth are getting done next week so i will say to vet and see what he says, hope its nothing major, since someone mentioned cushings ive been researching all night :( he doesnt seem to have many other symptoms though

What is your management of him?

hes on adlib haylage, get a breakfast and a dinner feed (2 scoops alfa oil, scoop fibre cubes, scoop ready mash extra, 20 ml linseed oil 40mg mint), his feeds have just been changed to this after having a long chat with the woman who i get his feed from. turnout all day when the weathers nice (YO doesnt allow turnout at all when its raining/has been raining, very precious about their grass) and hes really only hacked, some light schooling maybe once a week.
