I love my new farrier - he is gentle and patient and more than prepared to help filly learn to behave.

All her feet are now trimmed - she wasn't the best behaved but he dealt with her kindly. He realised that she is a sensitive young lady - hitting her or getting rough just doesn't work. So he quietly roped her near foreleg up (off fore is offored and had already been trimmed) and had her moving around in a circle - she couldn't get away from having her leg held up - within minutes you could see that she had given up fighting it, and she then allowed him to trim the foot with no problems.

Near hind she was a good girl - but got a bit smart with the off hind. Again he quietly roped the leg and hels it up. She fought initially but as she couldn't get away from the rope, gave up quickly and at last ALL FOUR legs done. Last farrier did one foot and told me he would come back when she had been broken in - Yer right! You won't be asked back!

Normally I'd never expect the farrier to train my horse but for the past year my back has been so bad fillys education has been sparse.

She is a big girl almost 17hh at just 3yrs old. She's kind and gentle and does learn quickly.

So a big THANK YOU to my new farrier - you are one in a million.

a good and patient farrier is worth their weight in gold, have you heard of will & rosa miller of nakked horse that do bare foot trimming in nz.

They have done my horses over here, and are brilliant, but I have not seen them advertising any of their clinics over here in aus lately. I know they work a lot in dubai, so maybe that is where they are now.

No not heard of them at all. TBH I'm not really into the 'Barefoot' trend - my farrier has always done an excellent job on trimming feet and this new one has just done a great job on the filly and her mum.

Mum is a Clydesdale and has really lovely shaped feet - and has always been done by a traditional farrier.

I'm very picky though who does my horses feet - a lifetime of having good farriers I won't tolerate any **** work.

I ask because will is wonderfully patient with horses, and usually will have even difficult horses standing still without being held by anyone by the time he has finished the trim.

He also picked up the cause of my horses lameness that the equine specialist vet did not in two seperate visits.

He was brilliant in correcting issues/lameness in horses, just through trims.
