I know it's summer but a winter rug question!

George didn't have any neck covers for turnout in the winter as he's pretty tough and I didn't mind and had the time to groom all the mud off his neck / out of his mane. BUT, having started my new job in London today (scary but good

) got me thinking that I will obviously be tighter for time with the extra commuting, so in the winter time saved picking off mud will be great.

So my question, George's m/w rug which he wears for most of winter is a weatherbeeta taka high neck style - is there any type of neck cover that would work with this? I can't remember if there are any rings for fixing a neck cover too(sorry, I would look but it's packed away) - thanks and apologies for the wintery question

Yes the snuggy turnout hood would be perfect, keeps them toasty, dry and clean. It doesn't attach to anything and goes underneath. I bought them for my horses a couple of years ago and they still look totally as new. In an out of washing machine too.
 
I always worry about those hoods that go over their heads, have you ever had a problem with the head bit slipping round over the eyes? Such a worrier that I am!
 
Never had a problem with them slipping on any of my horses and they range from shetland, welsh and TB (the TB is two and doesn't stand still for more than 1 second).

I use mine with a half neck shires and even though then snuggy hood is wet and covered in mud, the horse is always dry and clean underneath, They have been a god send!

snuggy hoods are very good as I used one on my grey horse last winter, however one will cost you the price of a new rug! As suggested, get some D rings attached to your existing rug and buy a neck cover which will be the cheaper option.
 
Another option is to spray your horse well with Nettex 7 Day Mud Away on his neck and mane. Okay it doesn't last seven days but it is good stuff, the mud sort of slides off of it.

But the more i look at your horse (and his name!) I can't help but think you bought him from Horse and Hound?
If so, i went to view him when he was for sale He was called George and looked exactly the same.. Have i lost the plot or is this the horse?!
 
Buy a speedy stitcher!

Then you can put D rings on all your rugs. This is what I do, although invaribly have a minor accident and stab myself. You don't have to be good at sewing and saves loads if you horse is a rug destroyer!

I use Mark Todd / JHL neck covers, as they fit really well and don't rub away the mane.

I considered the snuggy's, but scared off by horror stories about horses losing an eye.
 
I also think the rain will run down the inside of your hood under the highneck with the snuggy hood option, although they look like they'll give the most coverage muddy wise.

Personally, I would get an amigo hood and stitch D rings in all your rugs. At least then you can run out to the the field to add on the hood if it suddenly starts raining. less palava than adding an undergarment!
