Here is two (slow) years worth of building work for our stables. We wanted to use the old buildings (which my father-in-law wanted to knock down to build a shed!) and keep as much character as possible, but bring them to life and give them a new purpose.

Let me know what you think and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Bloody Lovely!
I am an avid fan of ye olde buildings and despair of people pulling them down. What you have done is wonderful and really kept the character.

...only thing missing is a weather vane and a dovecote!

Thankyou! We are very proud of it.
It probably would have been cheaper to knock it all down and start afresh, but it would have been such a shame to lose the character.
Heh, a dovecote and weathervane would look cute :)
We are going to put up bird feeders in the central grassy bit next to the stone trough.

They look fab, I know what you mean about knocking down being cheaper. We are in the process of reroofing a block that had asbestos sheeting. It will be slate by next week.
It would have been a crime to destroy those bulidings

I was going to say it looks like a 'labour of love' and I certainly wouldn't have wanted to foot the bill :( But worth the outcome without a doubt - they will stand for the next few hundred years now :D

Yes. We were very lucky to be able to reuse a large amount of the roof tiles to help keep the character. Hopefully the new ones won't take too long to get the same "weathered" look :)

I hope you're keeping photos of your progress too. It really helps to see how far you've come, especially during the middle phase when it all looks like a great big mud pit! :)

Wow it looks amazing, so nice to see the transformation. We did up an old block of stables (well two, haha!) at the field I rent, it's so nice to be able to look at the before and after!

Thankfully I have very generous in-laws who are happy to diversify on the farm in order to allow incomes for future generations. But yes, the bill is a bit of a case of closing eyes, hands on ears and "la la la, I can't hear you"! :o
It is gorgeous though :)

WOW what a labour of love. The end result is amazing and all you need is some horses. Wish are yard looked that smart would love an over hang so I did not get drips down the neck while mucking out. Congratulations on a lovely job
