Rubber Bit Rings

well i was wondering, How do you get them on the bit??

do you just stretch them over the bit??

and what are they for?? i always though they were to stop the bit rubbing or something like that.

You get them on with brute strength and bits of baler twine

have to agree there!! hehe also, get someone to stand on the baler twine, holding the bit nrings (attached to baler twine) and other person put the bit through
also boiling before hand helps
xx

You get two bits of baler twine, pull them apart and use your third hand to shove the bit through... swearing generally helps this process as does alcohol.

Uses - stops the bit being pulled through the mouth
Other uses - allows bits that are too small to be used
Further uses - allows bits that are too small to be used on horses with sensitive skin

I hate them - only ever used them to bulk up a bit which was too big, which is ironic when they are used to stop chaffing (on bits that are too small!!!)

You see my theme??

Heat them up first then they are stretchyer then use the techniques above. Or just get your mum to do it as i did when i had them with my old pony, lol! I dont particularly like them either and you cant wear them for dressage.

i don't need to put one on, i was just wondering as friends poyn has them and the hole is so tiny i was wondering how on earth you get them on!

If you put them and the bit in hot water - the rubber will stretch easier. I then use washing up liquid on the bit rings to help stretch it over. You can also use the hoof picks etc to help.

I actually found my dutch gag the easiest to do as I could pull it over ring by ring - snaffles are the most difficult I think!

You get them warm and just pull them on. Strange as it may seem, I use them on my mare as she goes bald around her face without them!!! I think she is allergic to stainless steel!!

Chestnut mares- who'd ave em!!!!

I use them because my gelding was getting sore lips without them. I pulled them on to my Dutch gag using just brute force and a lot of determination - mainly because someone had told me that a little girl on the yard could do it easily so I didn't want to appear to be feeble!
